WordPress download, Plugin & Theme = Facelift to my Blog questions – HELP!
-
I guess I have put myself in a pickle jar at this point and so CONFUSED as which way to further my blogging site now that I am ready to give it a face lift. I went with the free WordPress to start with and later paid the $26.00 annual fee for my own domain name. (I never downloaded WordPress.)
I found a plugin I would like to use (right-click disable for my images since I am now moving forward with the sales and protection of my image work). In fact, I have spent a week researching what to do rather than blogging! uggh
Here are my questions (and I so hope I get a WordPress Mod/Assistant to guide me through each questions as it is so disappointing that you cannot personally contact WordPress to ask questions, you have to submit your question on a forum and wait for replies.):
1. It looks as though I need to now download WordPress in order to use the plugin?
2. If so, now I see I need a HOST? (and pay?)
3. So what happens to my domain name if I decide to obtain a host? I plan to keep it.
4. I found a Pre (see below). I am unsure which to download FIRST – wordpress, the plugin, the theme, obtain a host? (or at least which order is best). I see a lot of forum discussions where users blogs went nuts and changed when they added various items/widgets/plugins to their blog.
5. Do I need to UPGRADE to use this the plugin? The plugin is free, but would it be useful for my free WebPress account?
https://wordpress.org/plugins/no-right-click-images-plugin/6. Do I need to UPGRADE to use this theme? I don’t want to pay $75.00 for a theme and not be able to use it if I don’t have to UPGRADE my WordPress.

(And again – my #1 above question above applies here…appearing that I must now download WordPress and pay for a Host…..) HELP!7. In order to do all of the above, do I now have to upgrade my WordPress account in order for these to work? (I need an answer for the plugin, the theme AND also for the WordPress download.)
8. I see a little support for the theme that I selected, but I still have questions on particular areas of the theme and found no answers online. How do I get THESE questions answered?
9. As an alternative to the plugin, I do have the HTML code to add to the header for my images for right-click disable (found in your forums). If this all gets too expensive I guess I could go with Plan B here.
But my question regarding images is this: How do I stop the image from being opened to a new tab when someone clicks on it (and they can then SAVE AS)??
And finally, I really do not want to spend a lot of monies on my WordPress adventure since I do have an expensive account already for my actual photography and sales. So I am hoping to find the least expensive means to give my WordPress a facelift with a more interesting appeal – I know, I know…..but hey….
Thank you.

1. It looks as though I need to now download WordPress in order to use the plugin?
If you insist on using plugins, you need to pay for a host and use WordPress.ORG software. But there are usually workarounds for things so you dont’ have to.
2. If so, now I see I need a HOST? (and pay?)
Yes, if you insist on using plugins.
3. So what happens to my domain name if I decide to obtain a host? I plan to keep it.
You have to move it and point the domain name to your new website.
4. I found a Pre (see below). I am unsure which to download FIRST – wordpress, the plugin, the theme, obtain a host? (or at least which order is best). I see a lot of forum discussions where users blogs went nuts and changed when they added various items/widgets/plugins to their blog.
You can’t do anything until you have a host other than WordPress.com and software from wordpress.ORG.
5. Do I need to UPGRADE to use this the plugin? The plugin is free, but would it be useful for my free WebPress account?
https://wordpress.org/plugins/no-right-click-images-plugin/No, you cannot use plugins on WordPress.com blogs.
6. Do I need to UPGRADE to use this theme? I don’t want to pay $75.00 for a theme and not be able to use it if I don’t have to UPGRADE my WordPress.

(And again – my #1 above question above applies here…appearing that I must now download WordPress and pay for a Host…..) HELP!WordPress.com does not accept third party themes. You cannot use that theme or any plugins on your wordpress.com blogs.
7. In order to do all of the above, do I now have to upgrade my WordPress account in order for these to work? (I need an answer for the plugin, the theme AND also for the WordPress download.)
No, there is no upgrade that will allow you to do that with a WordPress.com blog.
8. I see a little support for the theme that I selected, but I still have questions on particular areas of the theme and found no answers online. How do I get THESE questions answered?
You have to ask at WordPress.org for assistance with questions about a WordPress.org blog.
9. As an alternative to the plugin, I do have the HTML code to add to the header for my images for right-click disable (found in your forums). If this all gets too expensive I guess I could go with Plan B here.
You cannot disable right click on images here.

If you don’t want pictures to be stolen don’t put them on the internet – it’s that simple – right click is easy to defeat – put low quality images (maybe 500 to 800 px wide & compress the daylights out of them) and make folks buy the good stuff from you – also watermark the images – lots of Photo themes here –
you can sell your own pictures here and the cost can’t be beat
just use one of the free themes designed for pictures -then if your marketing goes bust – you are not out a lot of money

Hi Auxclass ~ Haha! I see and hear that all the time (for the past 15 years of my photography work) regarding “just don’t put your pix on the internet” – Yes, I do know savvy people know how to grab anything they want and YES, I always reduce the size and resolution anyway and put it in jpg format…But…I do like the right-click disable feature since it does put a stop to most anyone who wants to save it. I do watermark also.
I just didn’t see what I was looking for in the free themes. I am wanting a theme where my background is one of my photo’s. I tried one free theme before, but it won’t allow it to actually “save” and work. That’s why I began looking at the themes you purchase.
***I added a background picture from my computer to customize THE MOTION (free theme) and it does what I want while I am in edit mode/customize mode – then I SAVE it. BUT IT DOES NOT SAVE! The original Motion Theme background always appears rather than my background. (I guess I have to download WordPress and obtain a host to even get that free theme to work??)
***I still do not have an answer about the $75.00 theme I like. Do I have to “upgrade” my WebPress (pay$) account in order to use that theme? And 2) Do I have to download WebPress and obtain a host (pay$) to use that theme??
I appreciate your answers! :)

@Raincoater – Thank you for your answers – I am still confused, however, with some of your answers.
A) OK, so if I want to use (free) plugins I must download WordPress and obtain a host – RIGHT???
AA) – but you mentioned “workarounds’ ~ Can you explain?
B) You answered that if I want to use plugins I would have to obtain a Host. Is there a workaround to this?
C) Regarding my question on what sequence of steps do I take – OK, so you said I have to obtain a Host first….but what should be done 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc? ie: Theme, plugin, etc.
D. You said:
WordPress.com does not accept third party themes. You cannot use that theme or any plugins on your wordpress.com blogs.
So if I pay $75.00 for a Premium Theme, it’s useless unless I a) download WorldPress and b) obtain a Host???
E.
7. In order to do all of the above, do I now have to upgrade my WordPress account in order for these to work? (I need an answer for the plugin, the theme AND also for the WordPress download.)
No, there is no upgrade that will allow you to do that with a WordPress.com blog.
I see “UPGRADE” all the time. I am confused then why to UPGRADE?
Do I have to download WordPress if I do upgrade??? (I really don’t want to upgrade and spend the extra $)
Also, this theme was in WordPress’ Premium Theme section to purchase. Are you saying it’s third-party? And if so, again, what do I need to do (if I purchase it) in order for it to WORK!
F. In your reference to WordPress.com vs WordPress.org – the difference is the download and host vs the FREE WordPress?
G.
8. I see a little support for the theme that I selected, but I still have questions on particular areas of the theme and found no answers online. How do I get THESE questions answered?
You have to ask at WordPress.org for assistance with questions about a WordPress.org blog.
Did I ask my questions in the wrong forum???

9. As an alternative to the plugin, I do have the HTML code to add to the header for my images for right-click disable (found in your forums). If this all gets too expensive I guess I could go with Plan B here.
You cannot disable right click on images here.
I’ll have to find the link to this as I did find it on the WordPress forum where the code was explained and many many many users were happy with it and said it worked.
So, my question still remains – Do I have to upgrade? Do I have to download and obtain a Hosst? To use this CODE???
I. I found a link today that shows some of the best 2014 Free WordPress themes with a customizable background. After I receive answers on whether I need to upgrade/download whatever in order to use and ACTUALLY PROCEED WITH THE CUSTOMIZING AND IT WORKS…I’ll check these free themes out.

J. What happens to all my settings and widgets already in place on my current blog when I change to a new theme?? Will I have to go back to each page and edit??
I have spent over a week researching the above items and have put off several blogs due to time restraints until I get some answers. I appreciate the help and sure hope a WordPress Rep hops on board to help answer here… :)
