WordPress Editor Sucks

What did they do to tarnish the once simple editor into this minimalistic generative AI slop? I don’t even know how to do basic stuff like add columns anymore because of what they did. How is any of this user friendly when I don’t even know what the hell to do, and I’ve been proficient in coding for years? I want the old editor back or at least specific instructions on how to do everything without having to go through a million YouTube videos!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You mustn’t go “through a million YouTube videos”, you find all info about our Block Editor (which by the way isn’t AI-driven) at https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/new-to-wordpress-com-resources-to-get-started/

  • Hi there!

Thanks for the feedback! I am sorry to hear that you are finding it difficult to get things done on our editor interface.

Have you had a chance to check out our official guide here: https://wordpress.com/support/site-editor/ ?

It is the best resource for learning to use Site Editor and customizing the blocks.

To learn about adding and managing Columns block, you can refer to our guide here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/columns-block/

If you have trouble customizing anything specific, feel free to share here. We’d be happy to clarify further.

You are right, the WordPress editor has changed significantly from the Classic Editor that you were familiar with.

If you’re mainly stuck on things like columns, the quickest way to get moving again is:

    1. Type /columns on a blank line → hit Enter.
    2. Pick a layout (2-column, 3-column, etc.).
    3. You can nest blocks inside each column like normal.

If you want the older “click → insert layout” UI, you can also hit the blue + button in the top-left, search “Columns,” and drag it into place.

The docs are helpful, but if you’d rather skip digging through everything, feel free to describe the exact layout or task you’re trying to accomplish, and folks here can walk you through it step-by-step.

You’re definitely not alone — once you learn where things live in the Block Editor, it becomes much smoother.
