WordPress Editor wipes out line spacing in POETRY !!!!!

  Editor wipes out line breaks and spacing in POETRY.

  I’m trying to prepare my pages in xampp in localhost to save money on wifi bandwidth.

  I’ve installed the same wordpress theme, and I am pasting in the existing HTML code from the poems, which were in a regular HTML site previously. The spacing is all perfect, done with   wherever I need to move words over.

  However, after flipping back & forth between the visual editor and the text editor a couple of times — which is necessary to complete the pages with other things to be inserted… ALL THE LINE SPACING IS WIPED OUT!!!!!!

  I just saw this, and now I have 30 pages of poems with the line spacing screwed up, to be manually rechecked and done over…. except that it WON’T STAY PUT!

  What are we supposed to do in this quite unusual system that isn’t compatible with recognized html codes?

  Is there any replacement for the   code, in order to indent various lines of poetry to various degrees, and have the lines stay put?

  Thanks in advance, if you have an easy solution.

  EXAMPLE:

  Boldly still your spirit brushes
  the changing line
  flesh of ocean/
  bone of land.

  — and I don’t even know if the spacing will stay put in this support editor. The line “bone of land” is supposed to be indented so that the “b” lines up under the “i” in the word “line” two lines above. That’s the kind of spacing I have to FIX NOW on 30+ pages and have it STAY PUT! Otherwise, it’s back to html.

  Above message — the “& n b s p ;” tags mentioned in it have been wiped out. And yes, the line spacing of the snippet of the POEM, has also been wiped out here.

  I can’t understand how people would have designed WordPress on purpose to do this, given that you want an audience, and you want writers, and creative people, and this undermines the whole point.

  SUGGESTION: re-launch WordPress as WORPRESS TWO, and start over. Fix it all. Make it all compliant. And let the USERS of WordPress decide on the FIXES that need to be put in to start a functional system where the real “core” is in fact the WORD-PROCESSING system for the blogger. The editing window and the editor have to be IMPECCABLE, because I can tell you, I really do not appreciate doing my work OVER and over and over and over and over… trying to make it stick, when these are BASICS that stick everywhere else.
