It is my understanding that I can use and receive email through my website. Is this true? For example, can I tell folks, “Contact me at (email visible only to moderators and staff)”? If so, how would I retrieve that email.

You can indeed to do this by adding email forwarding to your custom domain (patriciadalywrites.com).
Here are the instructions:

In the linked document above, you’ll also see information on how to retrieve/send email from that custom email address.

Robyn, thanks so much for your response. Sorry to admit it has taken me this long to thank you for your help. It worked! At first I couldn’t find “My Domains” but you included a link in your response and–wa la! So much is new to me these days, it’s a bit overwhelming but good instructions get me through a lot of confusion. Thanks again
