wordpress fails to import

  Does anybody know, how to allow wordpress to create directories?

  all the rest is set up: the root server (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS@cloudsigma), the webserver (Cherokee with MySQL & PHP Fast-CGI) and finally WordPress, but the WordPress Importer Plugin fails to create directories.
