WordPress File Upload plugin Blocked

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I am the developer of WordPress File Upload plugin. The plugin has a Free version, published through http://www.wordpress.org and a Professional version, provided through http://www.iptanus.com (my commercial website).

Yesterday I got a message from one of my customers, you has a plan in WP.com, that my plugin has been blocked by WP.com because it is not supported any longer on your business plan.

Can you please inform me what it takes so that my plugin is included in your plans?

    Regards

    Nickolas

Hi there, I don’t have specifics but it looks like WordPress File Upload is on the list of incompatible plugins https://en.support.wordpress.com/incompatible-plugins/

I’ve also flagged this thread for Staff attention. Their reply may take a little longer than usual since they are at their annual team meetup this week. Thanks for your patience.

    Hey @nickolasbosinas2016,

The vast majority of plugins are supported on business plan WordPress.com; there are some that are not. This page contains a running list of these unsupported plugins and accompanying reasons why they aren’t supported.

(File manager, database manager and cache kind of plugins will not work.)

    Thanks !!!

  • Hi Nickolas –

Thanks for getting in touch. Did you have a chance to review the link that justjennifer shared?

Hi, yes I did and saw my plugin in that list. The reason is mentioned as “This class of plugins allow users to delete essential files or SQL data that often result in a broken website. ”

Regarding my plugin, it will not allow users to delete essential files (e.g. php or js). It can only delete files uploaded by the plugin. It also has some buttons in Dashboard to clear history log, which however affects only the db tables of the plugin and its options. Although it has many options, none of them puts any risk for the website’s integrity.

Of course, this is file upload plugin, so it can be used by hackers to compromise a website. I very well understand of that. For this reason I have followed all WordPress recommendations (use of nonces, sanitization of parameters etc.) to prevent this from happening. I have written a detailed article about it here. Please note that the plugin has been audited 3 times by independent security experts within the last years and all “security holes” have been corrected (at least to my knowledge).

I understand your policy about plugins. However, if there is a way that my plugin could be added in your business plan, please let me know. I have some clients who very much like WP.com and also my plugin.

    Regards

    Nickolas
