WordPress Flip-Flops

Actually, I wasn’t manually saving a draft … Why do I think it automatically does that? It used to have a recovery feature …
And yes, I was connected via my network (AT&T LTE) and on my phone where I usually do my writing.
As for the Editor, I have yet to see anything other than Classic.
What I can’t figure out is how it managed to get to RSS but nowhere else.
Very confusing! -
Hi!
Just to clarify, you were using the WordPress app on your phone? Or, were you using the WordPress.com editor within your phone browser?
-
-
I’m sorry for the confusion! So, occasionally, I’ve noticed something similar happening where I click “Publish,” and then, I’m redirect to my list of posts within the app. At the top of the list is the autodraft you mention. However, if I pull down to update the list, my new post appears at the top. While it doesn’t show initially, the post is actually published. Could this be the same experience you’re having?
-
-
If this happens again and you notice that the “Posts” page within the app doesn’t display your most recent post, can you try dragging down on the screen to update the list?
-
I have never tried that before, Jeremey. Dragging the page down. It’s just that it makes me a bits anxious, and I want to cut and save in another app first, but instinctually I hit post, before I think of that. It must go somewhere, right?
-
I believe it is indeed posting (particularly since it appeared in RSS feeds), but I think the post list on the app isn’t automatically updating when you click “Publish.” The pull-down refresh on the posts page of the app should force it to update, and your latest post should appear.
-
I will try that next time. But what I don’t get is why does it appear as “auto-draft” but the page is blank?
Moving on to another issue, Jeremey …
The stats are maddening.
When will WordPress make that transition between old and new?
Depending on which I choose to view my stats yields completely different numbers! Also not included in the stats are those “likes” that come from mysterious places.
-
Jeremey, I’m finally checking out some themes. It used to be you could sample a theme and see how it looked before you activated it. No longer possible?
This is gonna be a tough decision, and I can be going through themes for days! Basically I want something simple (the key) and I am incredibly fussy when it comes to fonts. I like fonts. A lot.
So now I have no idea what theme I used previously. I thought it was Journalist-something, but when I searched I noticed the journalist theme was retired?
Anyway, I’m checking out Blastion, or something, and the font is nice and bold, but squished, so the titles do not read easily. I’ll keep working … I need something where I can select the fonts I want to use, and determine their height and width by viewing several different combinations. I imagine that requires an upgrade of some sort. Why are you restricted to the fonts the theme has? I mean, I have many fonts, but I can’t access them on WP.
Plus I need to get rid of that side-bar. Functional, I suppose. But aesthetically …
-
Plus the CSS and all those technical things don’t interest me. Arithmetic was my worst subject. No numbers, please. Just pleasing visuals, please:-)

When will WordPress make that transition between old and new?
Depending on which I choose to view my stats yields completely different numbers! Both stats pages display the same information. The information is just displayed differently. If you’re seeing different information between the two stats screens, try clearing your cache and cookies.
Also not included in the stats are those “likes” that come from mysterious places.
I’m not sure what’s mysterious about your likes, but you can see these on your Posts page under the star:
https://thingsthatnevermadeitintoprint.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php
It used to be you could sample a theme and see how it looked before you activated it. No longer possible?
You can still preview a theme through the theme showcase in your dashboard:

I need something where I can select the fonts I want to use, and determine their height and width by viewing several different combinations. I imagine that requires an upgrade of some sort.
You can make changes to your fonts by purchasing the Custom Design upgrade:
-
What I’m saying about the likes is that they are not included in the stats. Not mysterious, I suppose, just puzzling, since I don’t have an accurate count. As I said, I will get a notification that someone liked a piece from the UK, for example. That then should appear in the stats, correct? But it does not.
I’ll try clearing the cache regarding your first response, but, yes, there are times when I view the stats and it says “0” and when I switch, it gives me a number other than “0”.
-
Also, I asked a question but you did not provide an answer. You said the pages are essentially identical. But the question was: When will WordPress merge the old with the new? Thus, the original title of this post – Flip-Flops.
-
What I’m saying about the likes is that they are not included in the stats.
That’s true. We don’t consider ‘Likes’ as a stat. Stats reflect information about your site’s traffic, not your reader engagement.
When will WordPress merge the old with the new?
We’re working toward a more unified experience here at WordPress.com. The new stats page is part of that transition, however I can’t give you an exact deadline for when that transition will be completed.
Really, you just have two options right now, just like you do with the editor. There’s nothing to merge, as they display the same content.

Jeremey’s not around today because he doesn’t work on Sundays. I’m more than happy to help with any other questions you have though!

Howdy!
I’m trying to answer all of the questions you have here. If I missed something, please let me know:
This is gonna be a tough decision, and I can be going through themes for days! Basically I want something simple (the key) and I am incredibly fussy when it comes to fonts. I like fonts. A lot. So now I have no idea what theme I used previously. I thought it was Journalist-something, but when I searched I noticed the journalist theme was retired?
It looks like you were indeed using the theme “The Journalist 1.3” here:
http://theme.wordpress.com/retired/journalist-13/
That theme is indeed retired meaning it’s no longer available at WordPress.com. I tried to pull out some similar themes here:
- http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/elemin/
- http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/blogum/
Do any of those themes catch your eye?
Regarding changing the fonts, Shawna pointed out the Custom Design upgrade here:
You should be able to start a free two-week trial of that upgrade here:
https://thingsthatnevermadeitintoprint.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php
Just click “Try Now” next to the Custom Design upgrade. That way, you can see how various fonts look on your site.
What I’m saying about the likes is that they are not included in the stats. Not mysterious, I suppose, just puzzling, since I don’t have an accurate count. As I said, I will get a notification that someone liked a piece from the UK, for example. That then should appear in the stats, correct? But it does not.
I’m sorry if I’m misunderstanding here. Could you clarify exactly what you’re referring to?
As I understand it, you’re getting a notification that someone has “Liked” your post at WordPress.com. However, you aren’t seeing any views register on your stats page. Is that correct or am I misunderstanding?
Once we know exactly what you’re looking for, we’ll be happy to help!

Perfect. Go to my stats and you’ll see what I’m talking. It says I have had 1 visitor and 2 views. Below that, however, there are 2 countries listed! So how can I have one visitor from two different countries? Scratching my head …
I gotta go.
