WordPress followers

  Recently I’ve seen a big increase in the number of WordPress.com users listed in my Site Stats under “My Followers”. I’m getting several new followers per day now, and while at first I was pleased with the apparent interest, it now seems to me that there is something fishy going on. I say this because when I click on the blog hyperlink it usually takes me to a WordPress blog that has just the “Hello World!” starter post one gets when they first open a WordPress.com blog or maybe one post that is usually short, nonsensical, and having no connection with the subject matter of my blog. Is this some kind of spam thing going on?
