WordPress followers not getting email notices
-
I didn’t realize until this wk., that readers who use the follow button (and who are not logged into wordpress.com), will not get an automatic email notice for new published blog posts?
http://cyclewriteblog.wordpress.com/2014/08/19/not-a-badass-then-dear-follower-tell-us-who-you-are/ A blogger pointed this out to me.
Anyway, our blog’s total number of followers is actually abit deceiving. But for me, it doesn’t bother me. The big statistic is not an ego-enhancing feature for me as a blogger. I care more about getting some comments.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Readers who are not logged into WordPress.com can only follow you via email. If they click the follow button they will get an email with a confirmation link and if they click that they will receive notifications of new posts. If they don’t click that they won’t and they can also cancel their subscription at any time without letting you know about it.
Logged in WordPress.com users can choose whether they want to receive email notifications or just follow your blog via the Reader.

It’s not deceiving. It shows you exactly how many people clicked the follow button while viewing your blog. If it was called total readers it would be deceiving, as the majority of people who follow your blog (in my experience more than 80%), are so-called spam followers who follow your blog only in the hope of driving pageviews to their own site or that you will follow them back indiscriminately like people do on Twitter and Tumblr.
In other words, you’re concerned about the right thing if you’re concerned about comments instead. If you want more comments, write posts that are comment-friendly, that are written in such a way that people would want to comment on them. Also visit other blogs and leave meaningful comments on them, and their owners might visit your blog and do the same, and if you’re lucky even follow.
