wordpress footer

Hi
Does anyone know how to remove the wordpress footer in a custom theme – thanks in advanceThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can’t remove the footer completely because the attribution “Blog at WordPress.com. | The Plane Theme.” has to stay in place. Are you trying to get rid of the widget in there with “Recent Comments” etc.?

Thanks a lot for your reply – I just watched a dialogue in forum and they claim it can be done in the editor under appearance – but strangely enough the editor is not listed when going to appearance ??? can anybody help – thanks a lot

Go to the WPAdmin dashboard for your website. Under appearance, click Customize. Go to the Widgets link there. Go to Footer 1 and click “Remove” then save your Customizations and view your site. It should remove everything but the attribution. :)

Thanks a lot – followed your instructions – unfortunately the footer is still there – can you explain why the editor is not listed under appearance? thanks C

The footer is not going to completely disappear because that attribution I mentioned earlier must stay there. That’s how WordPress.com is able to provide free websites; with a bit of self-advertising in your footer.
You’re in the WP Admin and when you go to Appearance, you click Customize to reach a type of editor that allows you to make specific appearance changes to your site’s theme. It’s an editor, but it’s not actually named Editor in that menu in your WP Admin area. It’s just a name thing.

Thanks again for yr immediate reply
One last thing – I am going to map an existing domain to my wordpress account – I saw there is a fee connected to this feature – if I carry out this upgrade can the wordpress footer then get removed ? C -
No, the footer will never be removed as long as you’re with WordPress.com. Even big VIP site clients like Time, TED, and CBS have the attribution footer.
