Can I create a professional-appearing website for a small law firm on WordPress? If so, are there examples I can review?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Google would be your friend for this – use “WordPress.com” (in quotes) then legal & lawyer terms

PS – the $ 99.- / year upgrade should be plenty for a law office – probably not need the fancy Business Upgrade – and you might even be able to get buy for less

@auxclass I agree actually. The Business upgrade mightn’t be required and a Premium upgrade is probably a better option.
Here’s more information about the Premium upgrade: http://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/pro-bundle/

See here for details of all 3 plans http://store.wordpress.com/bundles/
Note that none of the plans allow you to run advertising or to upload your own themes or plugins. WordPress.com blogs cannot be equipped for eCommerce transactions. If you need a site that requires a custom theme or plugins — e.g., if you want to be able to sell things directly from your site, or if you want to install discussion forums — a self-hosted WordPress site might be right for you. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate.
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/That said purchasing any upgrade bundle is false economy unless you need every upgrade in the bundle and are prepared to renew the bundle every year, and all upgrades can be purchased individually per blog and per year. http://en.support.wordpress.com/category/upgrades/
