WordPress for Online Magazine?

I’m looking into options to find out if an existing blog software system like WordPress would be a good platform for launching a new online magazine. Has anyone had experience WordPress for this purpose specifically? Thanks for the help.

Well, define what you mean by “Online Magazine” and review the thread at the top of the forum on the different types of WordPress. That’ll help you make your decision and help us answer you.

Im kind of wondering the same thing. I’v read the review of the different types of blogs and didn’t see magazine in there. The Monotone theme is kind of like a mag. One photo per post or “page” kinda dealio, add a little write up, get contributing photographers, writers, artists.. that would be cool. And it all get’s archived anyways. Online Magazine’s are usually free, and I’m sure it’d be cool using WordPress for it aslong as your not getting paid for hosting ads, it’s not allowed here. Hopefully someday if one could to afford to print the mag and have all that figured out it’d be more worth while but showcasing stories and photos and information on a blog is kind of just like a magazine… hey?

There is only one “magazine” stile theme here and that is DePo Masthead and it has some issues. There are also restrictions here that could get in your way such as no advertising, and limits on what you can add as far as code due to security concerns.

If I were you, I would think consider going self-hosted.

p.s. i just wrote support basically to ask what i just questioned above. it’s all fine if you go by those lines and don’t make money off paid advertisements.

Now I’ll correct my bad edit in the last sentence:

If I were you, I would consider going self-hosted.

I “promote” alot of my friends, share photos, stories (which now may become more in-depth, with more of them) and have links to all their doings. skateboard companies, snowboard companies, clothing companies, musicians, poets, whatever you know? it’s like a magazine of what I find interesting, to me. And if other’s like it, they can read too. I don’t make money off providing links to my friends and the thing’s I find happening. I also sell prints. So it seems do-able to transform into a more “magazine” style and feel. “Ravencr” I say go for it. Just keep it free and stuff. It’s all for fun, if your looking to make quick cash it won’t happen.

Also to Thesacredpath, was wondering if you could help me with: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/linking-from-a-static-front-page-to?replies=6 for the monotone theme. I tried what it said and it didn’t work. I would like to have just an image on a “home” or “enter” page where the other pages, post tags, catagories, and related links are not visible. So when one types my URL they have to click a single image to “enter” in and get access to the rest. Is that do-able?

See my response in that other thread.
