WordPress free Pexels.com image library not available on my site when not in Reader

It doesn’t look like free stock photos via Pexels.com are not available when not creating a post in Reader. Is that the only way I can get to the WordPress free photo library is through Reader? I have a couple of print screen shots I could share.

    Thank you

    Hi Pat,

It doesn’t look like free stock photos via Pexels.com are not available when not creating a post in Reader.

I checked your account and the option to add free photos is available when clicking the Write button (which is visible from the Reader) and when creating/editing a post from My Sites > Blog Posts.

If you click the Add button on the post editor, select “Free photo library” and a search for what you need, photos from Pexels.com should be available.

If that option doesn’t appear, it would be great if you could upload the screenshots to your Media Library so I can take a closer look.

    Thanks!

Thanks gemmacevans – I have added the 2 screen shots in my media library. One shows where I’m unable to access free images when logged in with user name and password and the 2nd one shows, like you said, where I can access free images but only when I’m logged in through WordPress Reader.

I prefer to work in my site logged in with my user name and password. Is there any other way to make both ways compatible with what works in Reader also works via logged in with user name/pw?

I appreciate your assistance in this. Also see other things where they don’t talk with each other. I am a self-hosted site and maybe that explains some of the differences. I don’t know.

    Thank you

  • @patruppel997920134 I just realized you’re working with a WordPress.org installation at Hostgator. We can’t see your media library because your site is not hosted here.

It seems when you say “WordPress Reader” what you mean is WordPress.com, our service. The free media library is a part of our service. If it helps, when we say “reader” we mean the list of posts you see when you click “Read” … and that reader is one part of our service. The My Sites manager is another part, separate from the reader. It’s like a different version of wp-admin used to manage multiple sites.

When you’re using your own wp-admin editor (which is part of your WordPress.org installation, not part of the WordPress.com service) you will not see the Pexels option at this point.

    I hope this helps!

Thank you Supernovia — no, not really — doesn’t help. It makes it more cumbersome but I can understand the distinction. It seems to be more complicated for the consumer than it needs to be. Different companies doing different things for WordPress site users but services not translating to each other.

Guess if I want to access your free stock photos (if I’m understanding you correctly) I have to access them by way of my editor in WordPress.com and not via my wp-admin editor in WordPress.org.

I’m appreciative of this service and of the access of free stock photos and for your clarification. Thank you for helping me understand so I know now how to access these photos for my posts going forward.

  • Yes, you’ll need to be using our service to access the free stock photos.

WordPress.com is a company and WordPress.org is free software. If it helps, it’s like the difference between a restaurant and a recipe.

Supernovia – Appreciate you providing these free stock photos for us and for the instructions and clarification on accessing them. I’m not real techy but know enough to get me in trouble sometimes.

You’ve been most helpful. Thank you again for your quick response.

  • You bet, Pat. Best wishes.
