WordPress functionalities and customization

    Hello,

    I am trying to assess whether WordPress is the right platform for me to start a blog I’m working on. I have a designer who is working on a custom illustration for me that will serve as the blog’s header. So, I’m looking for a website platform that can provide basic template but also allow wide latitude for customization – meaning, that I have to be able to code or integrate the header into the basic template. I’m also looking for a platform that would allow me to expand the site over time to add more advanced features, such as e-commerce options. Please let me know if WordPress offers such functionalities.

    Finally, what are WordPress’s header dimensions, so I can let my designer know the appropriate size to make the illustration.

    Hi Lummy,

    You can add headers to most of our themes. The sizing can be tricky though — do you want it to be the exact same aspect ratio on a wide browser as on a narrow, small phone? Will the illustration be a background that can be cut off on the sides or top and still be meaningful? Or would it be better to use a logo instead?

    Regarding ability to expand and add e-commerce and other features, sure; that’s no problem here, though you would need the right plan to run this on our managed hosting service. We have more info here:

    And, if you wanted to start out on one plan and then upgrade later, you could do that too.

    Personally, if you don’t need a full shopping cart right now, I think the Premium plan offers the most options and flexibility.

    hello. I have a question as well. I am sorry I am asking here. can anyone help? I want to make a shopping search engine like shopsy.pk in wordpress. is it possible? if yes then how? if not then why? wordpress do not provide any search engine theme? any one can help?

    A good place to start would be the WooCommerce community. With their plugin you can build a store and customize it as much as you need. It does sound like you may need to hire a developer if you don’t know how to build a custom theme to support your project.

    Hi @mdanish0771,

    The site you mentioned looks like a search engine / marketplace combination. There are a few extensions available for WooCommerce that can do that, like this one:

    However, the best way to find the plugins and the theme you need to create the site you describe is to ask in the forums staff-zinnia mentioned.
