WordPress has crashed – please help!
-
I tried to downgrade my business plan to free, so I can move to wordpress.org through a hosting site and use my domain. Now my wordpress.com site seems to be in limbo! It should have reverted back to a WordPress.com web address but hasn’t and I can’t seem to access a new site from my hosting site, just keep being diverted to the .com one without being able to do what I need.
Please help!!

Once downgraded from business it should have reverted back to https://mrsrackleyhome.wordpress.com/ so I could have taken my domain elsewhere but that seems to not be working anymore if that makes sense?

Hi,
I added a tag so staff can take a look at your question. One thing that is not clear to me:
Is your question about your site not showing up at your new hosting service or about why your old url is not working?
Thanks! -
I suppose both but mainly why it’s not showing up on my new hosting service – the old site seems to be getting in the way so to speak so it needs to revert back to its old URL.
Thank you!

Yes I’ve done all of those things, it was working until I tried to transfer my domain from another host to my current host – the domain now appears on my new host but I now cannot access the site and my domain doesn’t open. Could it be a time thing, as I did this about 12 hours ago? Thank you so much for trying to help!

No problem, I know the feeling of total freak out when things just seem to disappear.
Just trying to figure out what happened:
So, you did install WordPress and moved your old site to the new hosting environment?
Can you acces the files via the hosting dashboard or via FTP? -
Thank you – Completely freaking out haha!
Originally I had a wordpress.com site, which I upgraded to business and had a domain from another provider.
Last night, I set up with a host recommended by wordpress.org (Bluehost – BH), exported my posts from my wordpress.com account and added them to the new site that logged in through BH.
I then transferred my domain from the old provider to BH, which is where it seems to have gone wrong.
I now can’t access the new site through BH login, it just comes up with a blank screen and 0. My old wordpress.com account was supposed to revert back to the wordpress.com URL, it seems to have got stuck with my domain and I now can’t edit that properly either.
Does that make more sense? Sorry my technical knowledge is very limited I’m afraid!

I can’t really help you with any of these steps I’m afraid.
Staff is tagged to take a look at your WordPress.com site so you’ll have to be patient about that, but I am sure they will help you with that as soon as possible.
For the other site I would contact Bluehost. If they are the host and your files are on their server I think they can help you out.

Thank you so much for trying though!
Hopefully staff can help with the wordpress.com part at least :)

Hi there,
Because you had been using plugins on the site with us, it works a bit differently from regular WordPress.com sites. For you to be able to use the free address again, we’ll need to revert the site to how it was before you installed any plugins or custom themes.
There are two important things to note here:
1) Any content you added after installing plugins will be lost, so we’ll first need to make an export of the site so we can import that content again afterwards. If that’s not needed, i.e. there’s no content you’re afraid of losing, please let me know.
2) The domain still needs to be connected to your site before we can revert it. You don’t need to buy the domain mapping upgrade again, but I will need you to point the name servers back to us, just until the process is complete, then you can point them at your new hosting again.
This is only necessary if you still want to use, or want to delete the free WordPress.com address. If you don’t really care what happens to the free address, we don’t need to do any of this.
Please let me know how you want me to proceed.

Hi Kokkieh, I’ve exported my posts from the wordpress.com account already and will not be using this blog anymore once my wordpress.org one is working so happy for you to revert it. Do I still need to change the servers?
-
-
Thanks. I’m just waiting for the name server change to complete – it can take a few hours. I’ll let you know as soon as the revert is done, then you can point the domain back to Bluehost.

Hi Kokkieh, could you please let me know if you’ve had any luck reverting the site back? It doesn’t seem to be working properly at all anymore – Thank you in advance!
-
Hi sorry please do not go ahead with the revert. I’ve been speaking to your live chat and they have assisted me! Thank you so much.
-
I see you’ve gone back to the Business Plan on your site, so I won’t make any further changes. Glad you decided to stay :)
If you need any more help with your site, please don’t hesitate to start another chat with us.
