WordPress Homepage Featured image on Facebook
-
Hello,
When I first made my website, there was a default featured image when I shared my blog to facebook. However, one day after making a new post, the ‘home page featured image’ changed to be the featured image of that particular post!
That picture is fine when I show that post, but I don’t want it showing when I show my home page.
I can confirm that it’s wrong through the facebook Sharing Debugger: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/sharing/?q=https%3A%2F%2Fbiketoeverything.com
I have found out that I need to change the og:image to point to something else, but I can’t figure out where to do that. This is different from all the help pages saying how to make a ‘default’ featured image. I have the Yoast plugin, and I set the featured and home featured images there, but it didn’t change anything.
I have also followed the guidelines here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-image-thumbnail/
Any help? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Well wordpress tacked on a blog to the end that is incorrect. My blog is biketoeverything.com.
I apparently can’t find out how to edit or delete a post on here…smh

Hi there,
https://biketoeverything.com/ is not a WordPress.com site, but using the open source WordPress software and connected to your WordPress.com account via the Jetpack plugin. So our instructions in the WordPress.com support document does not apply to that site.
Normally Jetpack would control what image is used by setting the open graph tags in your site’s headers. But looking at your site’s source code in my browser, I see you’re also using the Yoast SEO plugin, and have the open graph tags for that plugin enabled. If you use a theme or plugin that adds its own open graph tags, that deactivates the tags set by Jetpack, as explained in the Jetpack documentation, here:
https://jetpack.com/support/publicize/troubleshooting-publicize/#jetpack-and-open-graph-tags
In other words, Facebook is showing that image, because the Yoast plugin on your site is telling it that’s the image that should be used. For help changing that, please post in the Yoast plugin forum over on WordPress.org:

Well wordpress tacked on a blog to the end that is incorrect. My blog is biketoeverything.com.
That would be because that is the primary site in your WordPress.com account settings, and is selected by default if you don’t specify the site you need help with when creating a forum thread.

Ah ok. Yes, I know the difference but I didn’t realize I was on the wordpress.com support!
Thanks for the pointers anyway. I do indeed have the Yoast plugin, but it seems to not be working just on the homepage.
For anyone who wants to follow, I’ve posted on the Yoast support forums my issue. https://wordpress.org/support/?post_type=topic&p=10532301
