WordPress hosting of my own domain name

I am new to the whole domain hosting thing. I just bought a domain name, but now I need to create the website. I would like to create it using wordpress and I was under the impression that I could do it for free since wordpress offers the free blog option. When I tried to create it, it said I must pay $12 per year. Is it possible to make a blog on wordpress using my own domain name for free?

No it is not possible to have WordPress.com domain map from a free hosted WordPress.com blog they provide to your domain free of charge. Domain mapping charges and instructions are found here:
