wordpress hosting – what did i actually buy from you???

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes I need help. Blue host says my free trial at hosting expires tomorrow 10/13/20. If I let it expire, I cannot access my Word Press account. I thought I bought my hosting through word press. Is there a way to talk to a human being?????

What is the address of your site? Did you buy a plan here or at Bluehost? Are you perhaps confusing the host WordPress.com (here) with the wordpress software you may have installed over there at Bluehost?

“…here or at Bluehost?” This is part of my confusion, I don’t know.
And most likely yes on your last question.

I do wish I could talk to a real person, I started having questions right after I purchased(???) a domain from Bluehost and (I thought) set up an account with WordPress. I think I bought a domain from WordPress, but it had “wordpress.com in it, I.e. pragmaticlayman.wordpress.com. I did not want that so I went to bluehost to buy the domain I wanted. I have email correspondence coming from wordpress when I asked questions a month ago, but everything is from a “donotyreply” email.
Your is the first I found a link to respond to.

Yes I have a problem with the interconnect of the two sites and which site does what???

Yes your site and domain are over at Bluehost. If you had wanted KISS it would have been much easier over here at WordPress.com. You need to pay Bluehost if you wish to continue building your site there. Your other option is to purchase a plan for the free site you have here and map your existing domain to pragmaticlayman.wordpress.com

There was nothing preventing you getting your custom domain right here at WordPress.com. In fact it would have been included free for the first year with a paid plan.

Thank you for your time and both responses.
I am still confused as to how I got to where I am, as I thought I read the pros and cons on having wordpress do the domain or third party. (I have two friends that use wordpress and recommended you but they do not have a separate domain name.

So if you are patient with me, what do I need to do next? Will wordpress give a domain without their “wordpress” in it? Will Bluehost relinquish my domain name?

I’m anxious to start working on my webpage in the few hpours I have to devote to it, but I’ve been too confused by what I have. so please help me KISS this problem.
I appreciate having someone who ist actually responding.

See my earlier replies. You’re the one who needs to decide what you do moving forward. You have created two sites. One over at Bluehost and one here at WordPress.com. Which one you continue with (both if you wish) is up to you.

I appreciate your patience, Bluehost is not wordpress right?
I thought I only got a domain name from them to use here at wordpress.
In fact doing my research before buying into both, i understood bluehost and wordpress worked together. I did not understand or see them as competitors.

If they are two competing sites, then by recommendation of friends, I would chose wordpress.

Based on what I understand above, is it possible to get my domain name from bluehost? And that is based on wordpress will give me a clean domain name without worpress in it

You can continue to pay for your domain at Bluehost and point/map it to pragmaticlayman.wordpress.com which is over here on WordPress.com servers with a Personal plan or higher. When you have owned the domain for more than 60 days you could transfer that domain here if you wish. Things would have been simpler if you had purchased the domain from the same company you wish to host your site.

    Thanks again for your help.
I had started a reply here a couple of hours ago, but stopped to double check with bluehost to see if my domain name was still good or if it was just the duplicate wordpress that was expiring. I got an actual body to talk to not a chat session like this.

He helped me try to point my domain to this wordpress account. There (here) he said it appears I had started an account but it was not complete. That lead to the cart that I tried purchasing but was apparently buying a domain with the .wordpress.com in it. See this link from back then:
    https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/domain-name-2807/

In all these chats back and forth with you, I always asked if I could get a clean domain name from you without the .wordpress.com in it. You never answered that question so I take the answer as NO I can’t.

So the long and short of this now is, bluehost help me set up wordpress web page over there at their site, with a clean domain name. So now I need to cancel out this account.

Then long and short of all this is, I had the option to coming back here to finish purchasing the

I thought I was clear enough when I said:

Anyway good luck with your Bluehost site. For assistance with that site in the future you’ll need to register an account at the appropriate support forum.
