WordPress import error

    Hi,

    I just tried to do an import from a self-hosted wordpress website.

    Here are the steps I took so far:
    – On the self-hosted website: Tools > Export > Download xml file
    – On wordpress.com: Tools > Import > Other Importers > WordPress
    – Selected the xml file and waited until it gets uploaded
    – Re-assigned authors to a specific user

    Now the import page says:

    ========
    Processing…

    We’re processing your import now and will send you an email when it’s all done. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, please contact support, and we’ll get everything fixed.
    ========

    But I also received an email saying:

    ========
    We are sorry, but there was an error while performing your blog import to

    Please contact support, mention error code 0, and we’ll get everything fixed:

    Contact

    ========

    I wouldn’t mind waiting 24 hours, but the email seems to indicate there was an error during the import.
    The old blog is still up and running (to import media files).

    Please let me know what I can do to help.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

    I have added “modlook” tag for the staff assistance. You will get a reply soon from the staff.

  • Hi there,

    The import indeed appears to have stalled, so I’ve reset the importer for you. This is most likely because your import file is over 40 MB big – we have a file size limit of 15 MB on the importer.

    Please try splitting your import into smaller pieces, either by doing an incremental export on your self-hosted site, or else using an XML splitter app. Generally the smaller an import file is the better, so aim to keep the files more in the region of 10 MB or less.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.
    It is indeed a bit more than 40 MB in size, so I will try the incremental export first.

    Thanks!
