WordPress is Free?
-
Hi. I am not understanding how wordpress is Free considering that if I already have a domain, I am required to MAP or regardless choose an option where I have to pay.

WordPress.com absolutely has a free-site option:

However, the free plan is designed for basic websites/blogs. If you require extra functionality (such as using a custom domain), you will need to purchase a paid plan.

Yeah this is where I get stumped because when I click through and then say I own a domain that I am interested in and then I either choose the 15GB option or map… it ultimately brings me to a page where I need to pay. So it’s not that I am not open to paying but I can’t see how WordPress is indeed free. At what level does it become free? If a domain is registered through WordPress only?

We offer hosting for free, which includes unlimited bandwidth, unlimited disk space, 3GB media storage, security, software maintenance, spam protection, and a free example.wordpress.com subdomain.
Using your own domain, whether you register it with us or connect it from somewhere else, is an additional service, and that is a service we charge for.
