WordPress is my domain manager. I want to have a subdomain mapped…
-
I need to map a subdomain within my domain interface with either an A Record or CNAME.(WordPress is my domain manager.) How do I set this up? To be specific, my domain is: http://www.fiberartnow.net. I’d like to set up a subdomain called http://www.resources.fiberartnow.net that maps to an external site. Please help! I’m a newbie! Thanks, Marcia

You can follow this guide to create and map your subdomain: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/

Thanks. It mentions that I need to get info from my registrar. I believe WordPress is my registrar. How do I access that dashboard? (Please excuse my clumsy questions-I’ve not done this before, and am quite nervous about making a major error.)

No need to get anything from us, just follow the guide on the page and add the CNAME record via your Custom DNS panel: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/custom-dns/

Oh, okay. If I’m not mistaken, I want to do the opposite process as they listed in the link you sent me. That is, I have an external site that I want to map as a subdomain of my wordpress site. Just to confirm, then, I would:
1. Purchase a subdomain from WordPress,
2. then find the CNAME record for that subdomain in the DNS panel,
3. then go to my external site and map it from there. Is that correct? Thanks for your help.

PS Please note that the wordpress site registrar is WordPress, but my external site registrar is not WordPress. I’m confused as to who does what, so I wanted to be clear here. Thanks.

Oh, sorry about that. If you domain is registered elsewhere, then you create the subdomain through them and follow the guide at http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/

I want the external site to point to a subdomain on the wordpress site (wordpress is registrar for the wordpress site, not the external site) . Thanks for your patience. I think I confused things. Marcia

Oh, that’s a bit different sorry about that.
Ok, you’ll need to establish the subdomain on the receiving end first. You can do that if they have an “Add a Domain” feature, like most hosting providers.
Then, follow the DNS instructions above, but just the step where you set the CNAME record, and have it point to what you have established on the receiving end.
