WordPress is saying I'm not signed in / doesn't recognize my e-mail

I’m trying to comment on another blog, as I often do, but down by the comments it’s saying ‘You must be signed in to comment’. I am signed in or I couldn’t be in my Reader! When I do try to sign in from there, I’m told my e-mail doesn’t belong to a known user. Wha-a-a? Perhaps it’s just today. . .

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

What is the URL of the post you are trying to comment on? Are you trying to comment using the account you are logged in to (historewriter)?

Please try clearing your browser cache and cookies for me. There are instructions for different browsers here:

    Solve Common Browser Issues

Then try logging in and commenting again. Does that help?

Let me know how you get on.

Will try but was having the same problem on both the phone and desktop–and I only know how to clear the latter. Thanks!

    On my android phone.
This is where I’ve commented before but today the error is: invalid username –http://davidmack.pro/wp-login.php

…I did go to the WordPress app settings and clear the cache, but same result.

Thanks for the link! davidmack.pro is a self hosted WordPress.og site, not a WordPress.com site. The differences between the two are explained here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

The owner of davidmack.pro requires visitors to have an account in order to comment — which is why you are being prompted to enter your login details. However, the login information you use for WordPress.com will not work because that site isn’t hosted on our servers. There is nothing wrong with your login details, app or account — you just don’t have an account on that site :)

I had a look at their older posts and none of them have comments.

Come back to me if you have any questions.

Yes, I know he’s not WordPress, but here’s what confuses me: where it says “you must be signed in to comment” it’s a hyperlink, and clicking on that hyperlink leads me to a sign-in page with the WordPress logo. –So evidently it’s the site sign-in, not WP, since it doesn’t recognize me–but there’s nothing on that page to indicate it’s a sign-in for anything OTHER than WP! =) tx for the help. I’m learning.

Their site is powered by WordPress but it’s not hosted on WordPress.com.

Correct :) You would be signing in to their site.

but there’s nothing on that page to indicate it’s a sign-in for anything OTHER than WP!

That’s right — signing in to their site is only option for leaving a comment. Only registered users with an account will be able to comment.

Happy to answer any other questions you have.
