WordPress Kinda Complicated For Simpleton Like Me

Could some please explain in basic simple English the following:

    1) How do I add my e-mail to my Word Press blog? In doing so I would like to prevent spammers from getting my address. Please help.

    2) Meta Tags. I keep hearing about Meta Tags. I know what they are but how in the world do you insert meta tags into my word press blog?

    Thanks in advance.

Complicated but yet you’re using Technorati tags, Feedburner and Scribefire. OK…..

    1) I gather that you’re talking about like putting your email address in the sidebar or something simular, right? Here‘s a post that Timethief made awhile back on services that will create a button with your email adress within it that you can use. If that’s not what you’re talking about, please explain further.

    2) Afraid you don’t here at wp.com as this is a shared environment and, if you were allowed to do so, you would be changing these for everybody here. You can do it though with the regular wordpress software from http://wordpress.org though if you’re hosted elsewhere. Do note though that no search engine uses them anymore as they’re too easy to fake. You may want to search for meta tags as it’s been covered before.

    Hope this helps,

    1. [contact-form]

    2. You can’t, because that would involve altering the HTML/CSS of the blog itself, which you can’t do without the upgrade. I wouldn’t worry about them; indexing posts with tags will help others find your site when searching. Just don’t overdo it. :)

    edit: doh, beaten!

Actually I saw sitting here thinking about the contact form as a solution. Got asked a question from the person beside me and forgot to write about that. Thanks for the backup. :)

To expand on question #2, the use of categories and tags like you’re using will for the most part fill in for the meta tags. Most search engine spiders will pick up on their use and use them to categorize your posts. Do note though that if their use doesn’t match up with the content of your posts, it may backfire.
