WordPress links are getting “page not found”

  I sent an e-mail to over 5000 people yesterday with two links in it to Media files I had uploaded into my WordPress account. They are: http://tascprovidernews.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/november-changes-provider-presentation3.ppt and http://tascprovidernews.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/november-changes-provider-presentation-pdf.pdf. I have heard from several users that they cannot open the links; they are getting a WordPress Error 404 – Page Not Found screen. So, I sent them a link to the Post on the blog that contains this link as well, which is: http://tascprovidernews.wordpress.com/2009/11/17/significant-tasc-plan-developments/. When clicked on the user gets routed to a screen that shows our blog page template but with a “Not Found Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here.”
  All the links work for me on both my PC (IE 7) and my iPhone Safari explorer. Any idea what the problem is for these users?

  This is causing a huge issue for me and my company, so it’s urgent this is fixed immediately.

  The first link to the ppt works fine for me. The second does also if I take then ending period off it.

  When putting URL’s into emails, always make sure there is a space right at the end of the URL and not a comma or a period.

  This will produce 404 errors: http://somedomain.com/file.ppt. (note the period at the end)

  This will produce a working link: http://somedomain.com/file.ppt . (note the space between the end of the URL and the period)

  And again the same with the link to the post. If I take the period off the end the link works fine. With the period, the link goes 404.

  Thank you, I didn’t realize I had somehow added a period to the post. I just copied and pasted them from the Media folder after uploading. I’ll make sure to double check that in the future to make sure a period is not added somehow.

  Yeah, it is easy to do if you put it at the end of a sentence or a paragraph. It’s just automatic to add a period. Same thing can happen with comma.
