WordPress Login seems very broken

I just set up my account and I’m finding that I get prompted to log in just about everywhere I go. Sometimes I get prompted 2-3 times in a row. I’m not manually entering my credentials, so human error is not a possibility. If I hit the login button a few times, eventually it will log me in, but even then, it appears to need constant re-logging in for nearly every click I make on the site. It often complains that my cookies are not enabled, but they are (and have always been, and continue to work just fine for every other web app out there).

Is this a known problem with new users? Mac users? Safari and Firefox users? WordPress looks like a promising tool, but the usability frustration of this log in problem is giving me some doubts.

sounds like a bug from the backend. unfortunately support is closed for the weekend so maybe stay off your blog then until you can send a support request on monday via feedback (top right of dashboard). =)

Hang on, it’s not the weekend yet! I thought support was closed on Saturday and Sunday only?

Before you put in a support request, try logging out, clearing the cache on your browser and logging in again.

It’s not a common problem that you describe so may need that support request. What OS and browser combination are you using?

Support will be closed Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday while the Automattic crew gathers in San Francisco in preparation for WordCamp 2007. We will re-open Monday morning around 9AM PDT.

Glad to hear it’s a known issue. I’ll let you know if I continue to see it. As for my environment, I’m using a MacBook Pro Core2Duo w/3G RAM. The problem happens in both (the latest versions of) Safari and Firefox. I haven’t tested it on windows.

i too am having extreme difficulty with login prompts. I am unable to travel two consecutive pages without being prompted for a login again. I am using Windows Pro/Internet Explorer 7.

I’m sorry this is happening to you and I’m sure that staff feel the same way too. They are “on the job”. Please look up and note the yellow post. It is from staff.
