WordPress Migration Preview
-
Hi, is there any way I can preview what my current website would look like (and edit if need be) on WordPress?
-
Depending of the platfom your current site is build on, you can import your excisting site to a free site on the wordpress.com platform, https://wordpress.com/support/import/.
-
@starlightdancing – If you would like to tell us more about your current site, such as the URL and how long you have had the site, we can use that info to take a closer look and see what might be involved in trying out WordPress.com for it. :)

Thanks for the responses!
No problem. We are currently using 123-Reg and have done for around 7 years (or longer).
WordPress looks really good and we would be keen to switch but would like to do it as seamlessly as possible so our customers don’t notice the change. Here’s our site:

Hello there,
Many thanks for that additional information.
We have this migration tool to help with moving a self-hosted site over to WordPress.com: https://wordpress.com/support/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/
To avoid disruption to the live site, the site here at WordPress.com will be on a temporary WordPress.com domain.
When you’re ready, you would could then map the domain over to WordPress.com: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
I hope this is useful.

Hello, thanks for this. I have tried (really, really tried) to make this work but there doesn’t seem to be an option to transfer from a 123-reg hosted site. The import list and extended import list doesn’t have 123-reg as an option. Do you have any other suggestions?

Hi there,
You have tried following the steps here, or is this something you are seeing somewhere inside 123-reg’s tools? What you are describing does not sound like something you would see when using our site migration tool:
https://wordpress.com/support/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/
For clarify, I will give a short list of the major steps to migrate starlightdancing.co.uk to WordPress.com:
- Download the Jetpack plugin here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/jetpack/
- Install it on starlightdancing.co.uk
- Once installed on starlightdancing.co.uk, you will see a prompt to connect Jetpack to your
@starlightdancingWordPress.com account - Follow those steps (onscreen) to connect starlightdancing.co.uk to your WordPress.com account via Jetpack.
- Return to WordPress.com and visit the import page for your Business site: https://wordpress.com/migrate/starlightdancing358779604.wordpress.com
- Type in “starlightdancing.co.uk” under the site you are migrating from, and follow the steps onscreen
Once you are done, you will have an exact copy of starlightdancing.co.uk here on WordPress.com (using our temporary staging address) and you can visit it to confirm nothing is missing. If everything looks OK at that point, we can help with moving your domain over, so the WordPress.com site becomes starlightdancing.co.uk, and then you will be able to safely deactivate your hosting at 123-reg since the site will be hosted with us at that point.
Hope this helps!

Hi again,
I forgot to mention that this is the support forum for our free sites, but your Business Monthly Plan upgrade includes priority support that you can access 24 hours a day here: https://wordpress.com/help/contact
With this in mind you are encouraged to reach out to us here, and we can take a closer look at your issue privately via email. No need to wait for a public reply in the forums, though you are welcome to continue to post here.
