wordpress mu

alright, so i’m definitely a beginner when it comes to content management systems and web design period. i’ve researched my question but all of the answers are in tech language i can’t understand.

so for my blog, i want to have the home page as a news blog. then have a page where people can go to for a whole other blog entirely, but still on the same site like a regular page would be.

and what i gather is wordpress mu allows for this?

i downloaded the program. its telling me to unzip it and open it in my browser? i don’t know how to do this. i’m completely lost.
can anyone please simplify this process for me? or let me know if wordpress mu is the answer for what i want to do?

    thank you so much.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You have to purchase a domain name, hire a web host and install and configure MU on that web host. Figure an average total monthly cost of $10 to $25 depending on storage and bandwidth requirements.

You will be responsible for keeping up with security issues, doing all upgrades and the installation of themes and plugins, and figuring out what went wrong when you install one and your blog crashes. You will also have to do all backups, and if something goes wrong, you will have to fix it.

Also, for questions on MU you need to inquire over at http://mu.wordpress.org/ . Volunteers here know nothing about it.
