WordPress: new blog posts appear in Google then disappear

    Hi
Firstly, I would like to start by saying that I have trawled through various articles on blogs appearing and disappearing on Google, so my question is a little more specific. I would like to say that my site itself has not vanished, but it is when I make individual blog posts, that they seem to get ranked quickly then vanish a day after.

I have recently joined and made about 10 blog posts. I am using the basic free version of WordPress. These blog posts have been of varying length, anything from 100 up to 2500 words. I have been careful to use relevant titles and content within my articles. All of my blog posts are entirely unique, there is no duplicate content, except some titles might have the same word in them, like ‘Jaws 2 Blu Ray Review’ or ‘Jaws The Revenge Blu Ray Review.’

In addition I have used an image for each post and selected a small amount of appropriate tags for each post.

After I published each blog post, within a few hours I have been able to find these posts on Google by Googling my name or the name of the blog. So far, so good!

However within a day or so of publishing each blog post, if I search again, most of the blog posts no longer appear if I Google my name. There are literally just 2 posts showing over the first two Google pages.

So I am wondering, do tags or having similar titles have an effect here. I have for instance done a a few articles on the Star Wars films and the Jaws films. So if one of my blog posts used the tag ‘Jaws’ and the second used the tag ‘Jaws’ would Google be thinking this is too similar and is essentially ‘omitting’ anything that has similar tags or content?

I am hoping this is not the case, because if one’s blog was focused on just Star Wars, surely that should always used as a tag.

At the moment I am using about 3 tags per post. Can anyone advise if having similar titles/tags in different blog posts would have any effect on what gets listed/ranked by Google. It is odd that the my blog posts appear, but as soon as I write a new blog post, previous ones seem to vanish from Google. Or does this happen when writes a blog, does Google ‘remove’ or ‘ommit’ older blog posts whenever you make a newer blog one?

    Any advice appreciated, thanks!

    Hi there,

WordPress.com sites do a really good job of taking care of the technical aspects of SEO that normally occur ‘under the hood’. Based on your comment, you may have already read https://en.support.wordpress.com/search-engines/ but I’ll share it anyway, just in case.

There are some great links at the end of that article that go into a little more detail regarding the ‘on-page’ SEO that each site user or author can keep in mind when crafting each post.

In short, Google looks to serve up the most relevant, up-to-date, and popular search results for each search query. Even to the point of trying to determine the search user’s intent, device, and geolocation.

Google is going to do, what Google is going to do. :)

So, along with all the efforts that you are rightly pursuing to ensure that your posts rank well, and show up at the top of Google search results, my suggestion would be to consider developing a strategy for your site that…

    • builds an audience (subscribers, followers)
    • who will interact (comment, discuss) with your site
    • ,

    • and share (social networks/media) your content.

These are the types of signals that Google looks for in top-ranking sites and pages – or posts.

For more info on doing this, here are some resources that I have found helpful. You may even be familiar with some or all…
