  Please try using the https:// log-in http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

  Just for the record, timethief, I tried to force the connection via https by using that option in the Internet Explorer trusted site setting – it didn’t seem to make any difference.

  However, it’s all back now, and useful to know about that setting in the Users > Personal Settings menu. I’ve set it on now. Cheers.
