WordPress not showing in Google
-
I have a free account but I am reluctant to upgrade as my site does not show fully in Google. I know many free WordPress accounts that are fully indexed on Google and where blog posts show in results. My site was never indexed and I received mixed messages from people – some saying it should be automatically indexed as a sub-domain of WordPress.
I had to have a company index my homepage so that it showed in Google. This was after months of nothing showing. They did this for free in exchange for a review but it has not indexed my whole site. I know other free WordPress accounts have all pages and posts indexed as I regularly find them and have collegues where this applies to their sites. What is happening and why isn’t my site indexed the same as others? It took ages to have my homepage indexed but I’m still not happy.
Hopefully someone can help.

Hey there,
WordPress.com does not have any control over when or how Google includes the content from search results. Content can sometimes take days or weeks to appear in Google search results.
You can ask Google to re-crawl the URLs of your new site: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/crawling/ask-google-to-recrawl?hl=en&visit_id=637962519638997740-1850231170&rd=1

I’m not entirely sure this helps… it’s not days or weeks… we are talking MONTHS… up to 9 months and nothing. One of the links states: “In most cases, the platform [e.g. WordPress] submits your new content to search engines automatically.”
Also, I believe I have issues doing as suggested because it is a free WordPress… Messages such as this appear at the links above: “You must be an owner or full user of the Search Console property to be able to request indexing in the URL Inspection tool.” When I tried to do things like this before I wasn’t permitted to.
Therefore it’s pretty useless, despite other free accounts not experiencing the same issues.

Hi there,
You are correct that even for free sites the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is great on WordPress.com without your having to do anything special other than post to your blog regularly.
The longer your blog exists, the more you post, and the more people who visit it, the higher it should climb in Google’s rankings. However, that is not an exact science, and since we don’t have insight into how Google conducts it’s business, it’s difficult to say what exactly they are doing on their end.
One thing to bear in mind is that ranking in Google is more of a marathon than a sprint, so it takes newer sites such as yours to build up enough “credibility” with Google (for lack of a better word) for you to rank more highly. The best way to do that is with traffic, and if you are able to drive more of your own traffic to your site, Google will usually take notice of this signal. Additionally if you have accounts on Facebook, Twitter, etc., it can be useful to auto-publish your blog posts to those properties to help drive traffic that does not rely on search: https://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/
Also as @amiteshg93 suggests, it can be a big help to register your site with Google directly, so you can see if they are reporting any errors in indexing your site: https://wordpress.com/support/site-verification-services
