WORDPRESS not working today-missing parts and a big black block

    my husband went to write a new blog today, and there was no ‘title’ in the title block, you know the preset indicator of where the title goes…so he clicks and there is a space there, he puts in his title and starts writing.

    He gets down 5 paragraphs or so and a big black block shows up and blocks where you type and is nearly opaque so its quite difficult to continue typing. The funny thing is that when you check the preview, it doesn’t show up.

    While it doesn’t show on the final product, it’s nearly impossible to write as you can’t really see what you’re writing.

    I thought he might have accidentally changed a setting but when I logged in to my blog (on a different computer no less) I have the same problem going on.

    Is it WordPress or is it us? I don’t know how to fix this.

    First, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/

    If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

    If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

    Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

    Well the good news is if I switch to Firefox rather than safari it works—well the big black box isn’t there but the title isn’t so it’s work able…

    The real problem is we LOATHE Firefox.

    So it looks like it’s a compatibility issue with Safari.

    Also is there anyway for my husband to default to the classic editor. He is very tech challenged and being forced to block editor is going to drive him over the edge. It took almost 8 years to get him using classic editor and now he can’t.

    Is there anything we can do to make word press compatible with Safari and use classic editor!?!?!?

    Is there any difference if you clear Safari’s cache and cookies, and check with all Safari extensions disabled?

    not sure if this is the same issue.. but when in edit mode.. the entire page (i use pages not posts) has a black background now.. so i can’t see clear enough to actually edit any page

    any ideas?

    That’s exactly what happened to us.

    We switched to Firefox and it doesn’t happen there.

    I hate Firefox and it’s confusing to my tech challenged husband that he has to switch between browsers.

    I also wish we could go back to the classic editor. This block editor is terrible.

    i cleared browsing data.. didn’t help..
    i updated chrome .. still not able to get to it
    i cleared browsing data again.. now it’s working
