WordPress on Microsoft Edge Browser
-
Since the Windows update earlier this week, my password protected WordPress site will no longer open on the Microsoft Edge browser. It takes me to the sign on screen where I can successfully enter my username and password but when I enter it doesn’t display the site but just displays a blinking icon at the beginning of the Edge url entry line. I have nearly 2500 members on my site and those using Edge as their browser are experiencing the same issue. I have referred them to use Google Chrome until this issue can be resolved.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Are you currently on the latest version of Microsoft Edge version
18.18362and using Windows 10? Can you take a screenshot of what you are seeing with the blinking icon and upload it to your media library? I’d like to see if we can look into this issue for you and replicate it on our end. Thanks!

This is what I show for Microsoft Edge on my Windows 10 OS computer.
Microsoft Edge 44.17763.771.0
Microsoft Edge HTML 18.17763I couldn’t find any directions for further updates.
I took a screen shot of the results of the Edge screen after I signed on to my WordPress blogsite but couldn’t figure out how to upload it to my Media Library as you requested. The blinking icon that results is at the immediate left of the .url entry screen on Edge where the address of my site is displayed: https://therotator.org
Let me know if you need further or have further directions

I don’t see the blinking when I visit that site.
Does the behavior continue when you load the site in a different browser?
What about trying a different internet connection?
These are the steps to add the screen shot in to your media library.

I have added the screen shot to my media library.
I can open my site on Google Chrome and the AOL browser just fine.

Please do these two things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.
2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

macmanx:
As previously done, all cache, cookies, browsing history have been cleared again. All extensions and add ons were disabled.
No change.

I wanted to follow up on this:
What about trying a different internet connection?
Have you had the same experience after restarting your router and internet connection? What about trying to load the site from the library, or coffee shop, or a neighbor’s wifi?
I’ve not been able to reproduce the experience on my end.

The same issue is being experienced from many members of my password protected WordPress blog site when they try to access the site from Microsoft Edge so I know it isn’t a result of my router and internet connection alone. I have advised all of my members to use Google Chrome or other alternate browsers to access our site until the issue is resolved. I have over 2500 members on my site which has required a lot of extra work responding to those folks when they send messages wondering if our site has gone down.
I have tried to open many different websites, many of which require a sign on and password on MS Edge and all have thus far been successful with the exception of my WordPress site so it appears to be isolated to a WordPress conflict with Edge alone.

I had turned off all choices in the Privacy & Security settings on MS Edge. I have now been able to open my WordPress site without issue. I have turned back to ON on all those settings one at a time and tested the access to my WP site and it continues to open.
I did check my wife’s computer which had not been modified in any way since the issue started and my WP site opens successfully in MS Edge. It had not been doing so before.
Possibly one of the WordPress staff made some correction at their end but it appears to be working just fine again. I will have some of my other blog members test it from their end to verify resolution of the issue.
Thanks to all the Forum members for their assistance.

Thanks for that. We didn’t change anything on this end and were in fact still trying to see if we could replicate this. I’m wondering now if something was just buggy in one of the settings, and “turning it off and back on again” fixed it…
Can you let us know if you run into this again?

Thanks, Supernovia
You folks will be the first to know!
Perhaps Microsoft did something at their end to resolve the issue. I doubt my playing with the settings changed the issue for all who were affected.
I had notified Microsoft tech support of the problem as well.

I thought I would pass along the message I received from the Microsoft Tech Support Community this morning. As mentioned earlier, I had also contacted them about the Edge issue after the MS update.
“Techbuzzard has replied to the question Edge browser doesn’t work with these web sites. Chrome has no problem. that you are following in Microsoft Community.
I have discovered that all my non-functioning sites all point to the same WordPress hosted server.
Today these sites are working again. I have changed nothing.”
