# WordPress.org to WordPress.com?
-
I started with WP.com and then went on to WP.org years ago. To save a little money, among a few other reasons, I’m thinking of going back to WP.com.
– I’m fine with WP hosting for me.
– I actually don’t need too many design options – less to mull over.
– I do some simple affiliates and links – not going into ecommerce.
– WP.com seems to be a little bit more of a network – at least from what I’ve seen.
– Just a simpler frame of mind and less to manage.1. What are some opinions on this? I wanted to get some WP.com people’s insight.
2. How difficult would it be to transition my site from WP.org to WP.com?
Thanks so much for any help!

It’s quite easy to do. See: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/view-all/

What are your thoughts on that kind of switch?
Does the WP.com free plan allow for unique domains?
-
I did it 12 years ago, as WordPress.com is more user friendly.
What do you mean by “unique domain”? Every site address has to be unique. With a free plan your address will end with .wordpress.com or .home.blog or similar. If you want a custom domain just ending in .com, .org etc etc you’d need a paid plan, Personal or higher. -
Yes, I meant to write custom, sorry.
So, you used WP.com 12 years ago? What do you use now?
I was just wondering. I currently have WP.org with Bluehost, but possibly wanted to save some money and simplify a few things.

Which meant I moved from a .org site to here at .com as I didn’t like having to update versions of wordpress, deal with security, backups, and I could save money too.
