WordPress pages won’t publish

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey WordPress team,

Within the last few weeks, we cannot do 3 things with our site:

    1. Cannot publish new pages as normal with the blue ‘publish’ button on the right. When we do, it acts as if it publishes the page but instead redirects to our Posts section. When navigated back to Pages, that page is still in draft mode.

    2. Cannot add any new media images. None of them will load and none can be saved.

    3. Cannot change existing URL slugs. They won’t save when changed.

I have reached out to Optimize Press, it can’t be an issue on their end as when we uninstall them these issues still persist.

I reached out to our host server – and they cannot find the issue, they suggested reaching out to you.

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks,

Makayla at Gold Standard Tax Team

  • Hi there,

http://www.goldstandardtax.com/ appears to use the WordPress software but as you mentioned, is hosted with another company than WordPress.com. In order to get help with your website, we do generally suggest contacting your host’s own customer support. It’s likely that they were suggesting that you try the community forums of WordPress.org:

To clarify, there are two ways to use WordPress, you can either use the WordPress software downloaded from WordPress.org onto a web host (also known as self-hosted), or you may host your site with us here at WordPress.com. For reference, you can learn more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org here:
    https://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

That said, it sounds like there’s a plugin on your site which may be causing this issue for you. We do have a guide for troubleshooting plugin problems for WordPress.com sites; feel free to read it in case it can be useful for you too:

I appreciate your response. I followed all of the steps found for plug-in problems.

Unfortunately it can’t be a plug in as the problem still persisted even with the help of the troubleshoot plug in. When I deactivate plugins, the problem still persists as well.

I have reached out to our host server, and unfortunately they cannot locate the issue. I am truly at a loss of what to do here.

If we wanted to switch our host server over to WordPress, how would we do that? Do you think that would help?

  • If we wanted to switch our host server over to WordPress, how would we do that?

We’ve got some instructions for that here: https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-an-entire-wordpress-site/

And once you purchase a WordPress.com Business plan, you’ll have access to our livechat support team who can walk you through anything confusing.

Do you think that would help?

I can’t promise anything on this aspect. But it will let out support team more easily figure out what is wrong and get your site working again. If there is a plugin issue, moving it here won’t solve that problem completely. But once it is identified, you’ll be able to sort out a solution or update.

After speaking with a few support teams, its been recommended to try and reinstall wordpress.

I will try to uninstall and reinstall WordPress.

Any tips on how to safely do so? I’m afraid of losing any work or permanently damaging our site.

Unfortunately the person who originally set it up years ago is no longer in contact with the company.

    Appreciate your help.

  • Hi,

I’m afraid we can’t really advise on WordPress sites that are hosted with other webhosts. We can only assist with sites hosted on our servers.

There are two things commonly called “WordPress”.

    1. WordPress the free open-source site building software from WordPress.org (this is what you used to build your website).
    2. WordPress.com, a web host for sites using WordPress software.

The two are related, but completely separate entities. Please read this page for more info on how they are related:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

As a completely volunteer based organization offering a free product, WordPress (the open-source software) does not have a phone number, an office, or a support team. Questions are often answered in their forums by helpful community members.

    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

WordPress.com (which you have reached) is a business and does have a support team. But we can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. We cannot help with sites hosted elsewhere but built with the WordPress open-source software.

Should your web host help you with this? That would depend entirely on what your hosting package offers for support. Some web hosts offer very high touch WordPress specific support (I would include WordPress.com here). Some only offer that kind of support in higher tier or WordPress-focused hosting packages. While others offer nothing aside from getting you set up with your server space and cpanel/FTP access. You’d have to ask your host what your specific plan offers. And if your current plan doesn’t offer what you need, if there is an option for more focused WordPress support on a higher tier plan.

Does that make sense? Let us know if not or if you have further questions.
