WordPress photoblog template

Hi,
Im not great on computers but im trying to set up a photoblog for myself. I have signed up for a wordpress.com blog account and wanted to use this as a template: http://wordspop.com/themes/fotofolio/
Does anyone know how i can set this up as my template? Or does anyone have any better ideas?

I’m sorry but you cannot use that template on a wordpress.com blog. On wordpress.com blogs use the themes found here > Appearance > Themes

Although many other themes are also used for photoblogging at worpress.com, there are two themes you may want to look at closely. They are called Monotone and Duotone.

Thanks for that. I suspected it might have been with .org but hadn’t come accross the page that explained the differences. Do you know if wordpress.org will be difficult to set up? Also, do you know of any examples of the monotone and duotone blogs that i can view? If you click on them it shows my own blog in that format, but there is no content on my blog yet and i dont want to put anything on until im sure i have the correct one for me.

For those who have not blogged before blogging on Blogger is a learning curve. For those who are accustomed to push button blogging wordpress.com is a learning curve. For those who have not blogged on wordpress.com software and who have no experience in self hosting a site wordpress.org blogging is an even bigger learning curve.
Here all “geeky” stuff is done for us. When you self host a wordpress.org install you are on the front line. You hire a web host and aside from the hosting service you are the one who must be able to upload the software, set is up, perform all upgrades, install theme and plugins and update them regularly.
If they have never self hosted before, and if they are not experienced with using wordpress software, I strongly believe that many bloggers ought to spend more time learning how to blog right here before they self host.

Changing themes on a wordpress.com blog is no big deal at all especially on one that has no content. I would set the blog visibility of “private” activate the themes mentioned and upload some test images to see what I could see. Also note that that we can have as many free blogs as we choose and then get a test blog and amke the visibility “private”. Then you can try everything out in it as you learn how to use the software, prior to doing the same thing on the primary blog.

Actually, for a photoblog, switching themes IS a big deal because of maximum image width. I’d upload a test photo at 720 pixels wide in a new post and then preview the test post in various themes before settling on one.

Perhaps you can try the vagilance theme here on wordpress.com. I am using it for my photoblog and it is a bit customizable to make it your own with some useful features. There is also Duotone which I used before, but I found that was too limiting.

I’m using The Journalist 1.3 on my photoblog http://gammagirl.wordpress.com/ because it has a very wide posting area. Anything less than 640 pixels is rather a shame in my opinion because of higher resolution monitors. But many themes work well, just preview until you find one that you like.
