wordpress pinging pangs possibly got your blog BANNED
-
what i found out in this post worries me. {nervous heartbeats}
i wonder if THIS is the reason bloggers keep on complaining about pinging every now and then?????
i would love to hear what you think of the scenario.
-
that blogger isn’t known for being full of crap, so I’m worried a bit. I just spent last night cleaning up code on several posts, had no idea about this.
crap. we should have an option on whether we want to ping! -

Oh yes – pinging from wordpress.com is fine. You are at no disadvantage.
The ones who are go round and ping every known service after every post are at risk. -
FWIW, I do use one plugin from MaxBlogPress on my self-hosted blog (though not this particular plugin), and it works well. But the emailed newsletter is just exactly as annoying as you’d suspect. Now it goes straight to the spam folder.

Do I need to install the mentioned plugin or am I fine just to continue using wordpress as it is?…I am a little confused about what to do??

it’s the pinging after every edit that is bothersome, not the pinging of after every new post.
if you post an article and then, as a bad example, too much koolaid maybe… find a typo, fix it and save it, you ping yourself. then you find another, and another… or whatever. or maybe you decide to put social bookmarkers on each post because you just learned of this great new way to get it done…and you go back and add them to your posts… after they are already posted; every time they are being saved, you’re pinging yourself. from reading the article, it’s possible some services wouldn’t be too happy with all that pinging and would consider it spamming and lock you out. -
Uh oh….. I better begin proof reading more effectively before I go back and re edit the little odd typo I see after I publish the blog posts :s
-
Given that I edit virtually EVERY post to add social bookmarking buttons, maybe I need to come up with a way to do that to posts that haven’t been published yet. Thanks for the heads-up.

Nobody is questioning if it is so true.
Surely it is a matter for staff to rectify.
If this Plug In is so necessary, couldn’t wordpress just add it, or its functionality? -
-
um is their some where in FAQs that say who wordpress automatically pings?
I honestly never thought about it before. -
You’re not wrong. And apparently the PingOMatic updating when you edit a post is no big deal. This would only appear to be an issue to people like me who use supplementary pinging services.
-
I ‘ve used this plugin with my self-hosted blog for several months. I save and preview dozens of times for some posts, so it was issue for me. I’ve just assumed it’s not an issue with .com blogs, but it would be nice to know for sure.
Only the most recent version required the email activation and those newsletters were coming several times a week. Most were monetization blah blah. I unsubscribed very quickly.

i know that you use sunburntkamel’s solution to put bookmarking links under posts. and you create blogpost-specific bookmarking codes after publishing the post. you need not publish the post to figure out the permalink!!learn how you can figure out the permalink of your wordpress.com blog post even before you publish it.
this way you will be able to put bookmarking links before hitting the “Publish” button! -
dissfunctional,
find a typo, fix it and save it, you ping yourself.
hmmm, time for us to put the “Preview Post” button to better use! :Dbut um, what about genuine updates? like, what if i have a page or post that features my tag cloud/archives/site map or just some simple post that requires me to regularly update some info?

pingomatic itself can be used by us as a supplementary pinging service – if we suspect that wordpress isn’t pingomatic-ing on its own, we can do it by going to pingomatic. and then we have the same dangers as using a different pinging service.pingomatic pings not just big T, but lots of other sites. so each time wp pingomatic’s our posts, we are spamming multiple sites in one go! :(
i don’t know ’bout you guys, i miss matt in this thread.

it’s very strange. i searched pinging and this thread didn’t show up. i pasted the WHOLE title of this post and it still didn’t show up.
i searched ping and THEN it showed up.
my question is, ping and pinging are both tags for this post. so why does only one tag perform the magic?
if anyone knows how to search for forum threads more effectively please share.
