WordPress Plans

Is the WordPress Premium plan for freelancers to build sites for clients? I’m confused at the difference between premium for freelancers and ecommerce for online stores. Does the premium plan (for me, the freelancer to pay) give me the ability to build ecommerce stores for clients, then add the ecommerce plan for the client once it’s built (for the client to pay)? I’m confused.

Hi! When you create a website on WordPress.com, you can choose to apply a plan to it. What the plan does is add extra features to the site; and each plan you buy applies to one site at a time; so for example you could have a free site on your account, one site using a Personal plan, and a third site using a Business plan.
The Premium plan adds features to a site like access to CSS customization, 13GB of storage, and access to the Premium themes we offer – that’s why it’s described as being a good plan for someone who might want to build a site for their freelancing business, so they can share information about what they do and let clients contact them.
If you’re intending to build sites for clients, and those clients don’t need plugins on their sites, then the Premium plan could certainly be a good option for them! There’s more information about it here:
On the other hand, the eCommerce plan bundles in WooCommerce pre-installed, along with a few other ecommerce-handy extensions for WooCommerce including a few different store extensions. There’s more about what it offers here:
https://wordpress.com/support/plan-features/ecommerce-plan/#whats-includedWhen you’re building a site, you’d want to apply the appropriate plan for your (or your clients’) needs, as you’re building it. If you start on a less expensive plan such as the Personal plan, and find your client will need a store using WooCommerce, then it’s absolutely possible to purchase an upgrade to the Business plan, or eCommerce plan if your client would need everything that includes.
I hope that helps, if you do have any other questions let us know!
