WordPress platform not accepting my DNS mx record change
-
Hi, I have switched from the free plan to the personal plan. I have a custom domain name that I want to use with my site, the problem is that wordpress.com either doesnt allow me to just point an A record for the domain name to my word press site using an IP. Unless I am mistaken the only way to point my domain name to my word press site is for the organization of wordpress to take over my DNS which I do not want to do, but I will attempt to do it any way as a temporary solution.
Before I point my name server over to the wordpress organization I need to setup my mail mx records for the domain name.
After I switched packages from free to personal I selected the “Use my own domain name” option and went into the DNS settings. I removed the default MX record that wordpress created and attempted to add my own. Every time I try to add the record I get an error message from the wordpress platfrom that it was unable to update the DNS record when I entered in my mx server for rackspace cloud mail which is mx1.emailsrvr.com being sure to leave the name field blank and only filling in the point to field and the time to live.
Something is wrong the wordpress platform is not accepting my mx record and I really would rather just point a a record to the website and handle DNS from my registrar by if this is the only option I guess I will have to use that until I find another solution.
So I was wondering if I could get some help figuring out what is the problem, why the platform is rejecting a DNS MX record change and what to do about it. Thank you for your time.

Hey scottrlarson,
I am tagging it to “modlook” for staff assistance. Please wait for a while. Someone from the staff will get back to you.

Ravichahar thank you. As a separate issue, I did see your reply when i refreshed the page, but I am not receiving email notifications even though I subscribed to this post. Is that designed behavior? I should normally receive notifications via email but so far I have not.

Ravichahar, never mind about the email thing I think im having a dns issue with my mx record. disregard that.
-
So, you’re thinking the issue is on our end? Or you’ve got it sorted elsewhere?
Let me know, happy to look into it.

Just a separate email issue with my registrar. I through the switch on changing my name severs to word.com for my custom domain on my site at WordPress.com before I created the dns records, so I switched the dns servers back to the registrar minutes later on friday until I can get the WordPress.com dns record issue sorted out.
I’m still having problems with trying to create mx records in the WordPress.com dns tool. Rackspace cloud email servers mx1.emailsrvr.com mx2.emailsrvr.com are not being accepted by the tool. The tool throws an error after creating the mx records and trying to save the dns record: unable to update dns.

The wordpress domain name tool does not work or its buggy, and forum support is not cutting it. Please disregard all.

Hi there,
We have hundreds of users who add MX records to our DNS editor daily without any problems, so the trouble could be with the records you’re trying to add themselves.
In another thread you requested that we remove the domain mapping from your account, and I also see you have it pointed at Gandi.net’s name servers now, and the MX records you have there are for mx2.emailsrvr.com.scottrlarson.com, not mx1.emailsrvr.com as you gave in your reply above.
If you still want to try adding those records here, please re-add the domain mapping upgrade and then give me the exact instructions Rackspace gave you regarding which MX records to use and I’d be happy to take a look for you.
