Howdy,
What site are you wanting to work on? The WordPress.org software should be installed on the server that will host your site. Using a MAMP stack is typically only done for internal development before deploying to a server.
If we’re on the same page there, likely you may need to export and import your database into your MAMP stack.
Here on this site, we support WordPress.com—the completely hosted version of WordPress. For issues with self-hosted WordPress.org sites or local installations, the support forums are found at http://wordpress.org/support/
Thanks!

So how do I add plug ins on my site if I want to keep everything on wordpress.com. When I was looking into add plug ins it looked like I had to download something else,

With WordPress.com, it isn’t an option. We don’t allow plugins or third-party themes for security and stability purposes.
You’ll need to migrate to a WordPress.org-based site. We have a breakdown of the difference at WordPress.com and WordPress.org.
If you don’t have a host in mind, we have a few that have one-click install for WordPress at http://get.wp.com/hosting/
If there’s anything else I can answer, please let me know. Thanks!

So what is the benefit of buying the premium updates on wordpress.com so you can customize your own site? I am confused on what wordpress.com can do.
-
My wordpress.com site is http://www.eldoradocountyyounglife.com
I would like to customize it more and add better calendar functions and design. How can I go about doing this.

The biggest benefit of WordPress.com over a WordPress.org-based site is that we take care of security and the server for you. No matter how many visitors come to your site, we’ll keep everything running smoothly along without you having to worry about how to keep your site secure, dealing with hackers, keeping everything updated, etc.
WordPress.org-based sites are more flexible—you can do virtually anything you can code (or find code to do, like a plugin)—though you’re much more on your own if something goes wrong.
With the calendar, embedding a Google calendar is a solid option on WordPress.com.
What type of design changes did you want to make? In addition to the built-in options via our Appearance->Customize tools, using CSS, you can do quite a bit.
(For specific CSS help, our CSS forum has great folks in it who are wizards at CSS: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization )
Cheers!
