    Hi,

It appears that your website uses the self-hosted version of WordPress rather than WordPress.com, which is what this forum is designed to help with. Note the difference here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

You may be able to find help here: https://wordpress.org/support/ or contact your hosting provider (Unified Layer).

    Hope this gets fixed soon!

Thanks. So there’s WordPress, WordPress.com and WordPress.org. I’ve been at this the whole day already since 7.45 am. I’m exhausted. HostGator could not solve it. There seem to be no Live Chat with WordPress. Interesting. I’ve been on youtube trying to solve it and end up more confused.

  • Hi there,

WordPress is the name of the software you’re using to run your site. That software is installed on a server at HostGator – they are your hosting provider.

The WordPress software is owned and maintained by a community of volunteers – people who also use WordPress for their businesses/websites, and work on it in their free time. WordPress.org is the site where this community co-ordinates their efforts, and also provide support for that software.

So for help with your site you’ll either go to your host (which you’ve already tried in this case, but this sounds more like a software issue rather than a hosting one), or to the WordPress forums over on WordPress.org. There is no live chat support, no, as there is no company who can employ support staff – the WordPress software is open source, and belongs to the community of volunteers that make it.

In this case, if you’re having trouble with a specific plugin, you might also consider posting in the specific support forum for that plugin, where the plugin’s author themselves should be able to help you. If you tell me what plugin you’re trying to install, I can try and point you to the right place to ask.

WordPress.com is where you are now. We are a hosting provider, like Hostgator, who lets people set up sites with our own, modified version of the WordPress software. You are able to access your site using your WordPress.com account because you have it connected here via the Jetpack plugin, which also adds features like WordPress.com sharing buttons and stats to your site. But we have no control over your site itself, and are not able to help you with software issues like these.

I hope that clarifies things a bit for you.

Hi, thanks, that was informative. It did help a lot. Ok, I was looking at Recent Posts Widget Extended plugin. I will contact hostgator again and go to Recent Post Widget Extended plugin forum if there’s one. Thanks!

  • Hi there,

I think this is the plugin’s support forum:

    https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/recent-posts-widget-extended

and of course, you can always post your question at the WordPress.org forums:
