WordPress Policy

Does WordPress.com have a policy for or against affiliates operating from blogs?

As far as I can see it doesn’t have any published policies on anything. You will have to contact somebody from Automattic and ask.

There is currently no written policy in place on WP.com. (Insert my two cents on how I feel that’s a bad idea while I’m thinking of it.)

I’m assuming that when you say affliates, you mean like links and what not, correct? I’ve done a lot of reporting of sblogs in the few months I’ve been here and I’ll give you my take on it.

Blogs that are set up simply for the purpose of providing links and what not are removed. Those with posts that are nothing by adverts are as well. (Although a few have remained after reporting.)

Having an occasional “Sponsered by…” link seems to be allowed.

Insert a typical “I’m not a staff member or admin though” response here.

Maybe an example of what you’re talking about?…

Also using a free service to make money even I’m kind of iffy about….

blogspot is a free service and google ads can be placed in.

even now, if someone uses the sidebar links to link to some websites with his referral id, how will you monitor that ?

That’s one of the reasons why I said *SOME* affliate links appear to be allowed as long as it’s not the main point of the blog. :)

Plus blogspot (Blogger) may be free to use but Google readily admits it’s selling off its marketing data.

Thanks for the input here. An example of what I mean: I like to mention books, (I am addicted to them, among other things). I would like to have a link to a bookshop, (such as Barnes and Noble), where people could get the book that my blog page is about, if they want. I am hoping to keep it very low key, actually, almost invisible.

    <notoffical>I don’t see an issue with that.</notoffical>

Again I’m not an admin but it does appear to be allowed. AT the very most, I would think that you would be told just to remove it.

Thanks, Drmike. I appreciate the help. Like most, I don’t want to turn my blog into an advertising festival, but just refer people to some good books in a small way.
