WordPress posts still aren't publicizing to Facebook

WordPress posts still aren’t publicizing to Facebook after repeat tries. Before publishing on WP I select the option but then after publication it doesn’t stick.

Hey Nicholas,
It looks like the Facebook connection timed out when trying to Publicize your post. This is likely due to the amount of images in the gallery. I’m going to attempt to reproduce this and relay the information to our developers for a fix. However, I’d like to know from you whether this is happening with every post or just certain posts from your blog. Please let me know!

I did a test post with no images and that seemed to work just fine. It does seem to happen with any post that has pictures embedded as a gallery. It works fine with just a single image inserted or a 3 image gallery. I haven’t tested the limit yet. Could it be because of Facebook’s image upload cap? I think you can only upload 30 images at a time to a single post.

Thanks for the additional information. I think this is due to the amount of images and the size of the post. I’m going to do some additional testing. I’ll let you know as soon as I have more information on the cause of the problem and any potential solutions moving forward!

I suppose I could test it myself, too, but trying different amounts of images. Since FB’s limit is 30 I could start there.

It looks like the issue is indeed the size of the post. However, I don’t think the limit is 30 since the issue occurred on your post here (which has less than 30 images):

The issue appears to be more related to the size of the images/post. I’ll keep you posted as I find out more about a fix!

That last post today seemed to work fine. I recently started uploading images @ 1200px wide @72 ppi up from 800px w. Could that have something to do with it?

Hey Nicholas,
Your latest posts look like they have a few less images in them than the ones that failed. Uploading larger images could definitely have something to do with it. The limitation is in the entire size of the post, which is increased with the larger image size. When the post reaches a certain size, the Facebook connection times out and the post isn’t Publicized correctly.
Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s as simple as saying “Only include five images”. Our developers are aware of the issue. I’ll keep you posted as soon as I know more about how to avoid this going forward!
