WordPress Premium vs WordPress.org

    Hello there,

I’m trying to get increased customization to my blog and was thinking of either upgrading to wordpress premium or migrating to wordpress.org.

I have a few questions – are plugins only available with a wordpress.org site or are they available with a wordpress premium account as well?
If I migrate my site to wordpress.org, will I be able to preserve the current format of my site?
Are there other key pros and cons of using wordpress premium vs having a wordpress.org site?

    Thank you!

    Hi,

I have a few questions – are plugins only available with a wordpress.org site or are they available with a wordpress premium account as well?

Plugins are only available for installation with a wp.org site. Here at wp.com there are many plugins running along WordPress core, however you don’t have access to manage them, meaning you can’t install, uninstall, activate, deactivate etc.

If I migrate my site to wordpress.org, will I be able to preserve the current format of my site?

If you aren’t using a Premium theme, you’ll probably be able to preserve it. You may follow the steps here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/ or buy a Guided Transfer upgrade and wp.com staff will help you do it (https://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/)

Are there other key pros and cons of using wordpress premium vs having a wordpress.org site?

Have you seen this page http://get.wp.com/ yet? There’s a short comparison and it may help you understand the differences. But basically wp.org is more flexible, but then you need to be more tech savvy, whereas wp.com is less flexible, but you may relax and be totally focused on your content.
If you need more help, let me know!
