WordPress problem with fb?
-
Have you experienced any central issue with fb connection recently? Three days ago I noticed that fb likes on most of my older posts dropped to 1 or 2, on some posts to 0. It started to count again on last two posts. I disconnected the blog from fb but it didn’t help. Strange thing is that Firefox and Chrome show different results. Also: so far my URL started with http, 3 days ago I noticed it changed to https. The problem appeared at the time when you changed sth with the WP tool bar.

Hi,
I’m not aware of any issues with Facebook. When I visit your blog in Chrome and Firefox, I’m seeing the same numbers. Is this issue still happening on your side?
Both the HTTPS and HTTP versions of your domain should work provided you do not have a domain mapped to your site. However, all admin links should go to HTTP. Can you point me to a link on your Dashboard that you’re clicking and receiving an HTTPS link?
-
The problem has not been solved. When I ask my friends, on their computers they also see different number of likes under each posts when using Firefox and Chrome. On Firefox most of them disappeared, I can see post with 0, 1 or 2. Can you please check once again?
This is only one example https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/11/08/polski-jazz-w-budapeszcie/ (on Firefox 2 likes, on Chrome 84 likes), another one: https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/11/13/zapowiedzi-13-11/ (firefox 11 likes, Chrome 0).
Here I had around 200 likes, now only 4 on both browsers https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/11/02/nalog-ktory-moze-leczyc/Each time I click sth on my dashboard it always goes to https.
-
I see two likes on both browsers for this post:
Here’s a screenshot showcasing both:
Similarly, I see 11 here in both browsers:
I see 4 in both browsers for this post:
Can you please take a screenshot of another value (84 for the first link for example) and upload it to your Media Library? Please include the entire screen including the address bar.
Each time I click sth on my dashboard it always goes to https.
Your Dashboard URL (https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/wp-admin/) will go to HTTPS. However, post URLs like the following should default to HTTP:
Here’s an example from your posts page showcases the “View” link and corresponding HTTP link:
-
I discussed it again with my colleagues who checked it for me and they summarised the following:
1. It is possible to see the same results in any browser.
2. The difference is only when address includes https (you can see less or 0 likes then) or http (in this situation you can see almost all likes for majority of posts, but there are still some posts where all likes are missing).
3. Since half an hour now there is no more possibility to open any URL with http. Even if we try to enter the address with http it is automatically changed to https.
4. The above situation caused that I am not able to provide you with screenshot with more number of likes visible for http.
5. The fact that all missing likes could have been visible for http means that they were not lost by facebook but it must be some problem with WordPress view.
6. All these problems started at the moment I noticed the address was changed to https.
7. You mentioned:However, post URLs like the following should default to HTTP:
http://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/11/14/nadzwyczajne-lekcje-historii/I clicked “view” from my dashboard as you suggested and they all went to https so I assume there must be some problem with WordPress function here.

@budapeszter – Thanks for the additional information. I’m still investigating this. I’ll let you know when I find out more information!
-
Hi @budapeszter – Thanks for the report here and all of the additional detective work. It appears that this was related to some http vs. https changes. We’ve made an adjustment to how we call for the sharing numbers. It should compile both http and https shares on your posts. This might take some time to update. Can you let me know if the numbers don’t appear correctly after a few hours?
-
I am sorry but any change so far, likes are still missing. It’s been more than one week now. I appreciate your assistance in this case and hope you’ll manage to solve this problem soon.
-
Hi @budapeszter – It looks like the share numbers are now matching correctly to what Facebook is reporting. For example, the following URL is showing 4 shares:
That’s the same amount Facebook is reporting here:
https://graph.facebook.com/?id=https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/11/02/nalog-ktory-moze-leczyc/
Facebook reports a total of four shares for both the http and https variation of your post URL.
-
The post you checked was more popular and I had about 200 likes here. Same situation with this one (there were 84 likes, now only 2, I’ve just clicked like button so now it’s 3) https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/11/08/polski-jazz-w-budapeszcie/
As I already reported, actually on most of my older post all likes disappeared or went to 1 or 2 and now it counts from the beggining when you click it.When you check my fb page https://www.facebook.com/budapeszter you’ll see the first post I published after all this problem appeared was on 13 Nov (on blog it has date 12 Nov) and it already starts with https: https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/11/12/szorty-czyli-krotko-12-11/
Almost all posts I published before show wrong number of likes on my blog. They were all http.On new posts published on fb manually by pasting the link on fb page, the numbers are correct. Among these new posts there is one published automatically from WP which again shows wrong number (on my fb page you will see that it was published automatically with http): https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/11/14/nadzwyczajne-lekcje-historii/

@budapeszter – It looks like this is an HTTPS vs. HTTP issue that we’re working to resolve. In the meantime, switching the share buttons away from the “official button” to another option (like Icon + text) here should help to display the correct numbers:
https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=sharing
Can you give that a try?
-
Hy there! I have the same problem. All my fbk likes are gone. So…can anybody see what’s going on?
-
Hi, I’ve switched the official button to Icon+text and numbers go crazy. Now on some post it’s double (!), on some no change or wrong numbers.
-
I’m looking at this post as an example:
Currently, I see 10 Facebook shares from that post. That matches the aggregate of Facebook’s share numbers shown here:
and here:
Those are the numbers reported directly from Facebook. They should read 7 for the http version and 3 for the https version totaling 10.
@cosminavoica – Could you please provide some additional details? If you have a link to a specific post as well as some details on sharing numbers you have seen for that post previously, that would be a huge help!
-
https://ganduricupoveste.wordpress.com/2014/11/12/sunt-cu-tine-in-gand/ for example for this post i had almost 50 likes and now i see just 3. and that happend with all my posts.
-
@cosminavoica – This should be resolved by switching your sharing buttons to anything but the “official button” (icon + text for example) here:
https://ganduricupoveste.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=sharing
Can you give that a try? When I switched it temporarily, that post jumped back to 48 Facebook shares.
-
Indeed, but i want a like button, not a share button, and the official one it’s for likes. when you click it you’ve got likes, i don’t want to share it.
-
icon + text button does not show the right numbers on all posts. See for example these ones:
https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/11/02/nalog-ktory-moze-leczyc/ – should be between 170-180
https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/11/08/polski-jazz-w-budapeszcie/ – should be 85-90
https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/10/24/eger-po-sezonie-dzien-pierwszy/ – should be about 35
https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/10/28/jak-gotowac-w-kociolku/ – 30+
https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/11/01/cmentarz-kerepesi/ – do not remember the exact number but for sure it was 10+
https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/10/30/zapowiedzi-30-10/ – 10+
https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/10/27/z-przeszlosci-budapesztu/ – about 10
https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/11/07/rubik-na-scianie/ – 10 or so
same here https://budapeszter.wordpress.com/2014/11/10/ges-w-czerwonym-winie/Also, please check the newest posts, I think likes are counted twice now.
-
Indeed, but i want a like button, not a share button, and the official one it’s for likes. when you click it you’ve got likes, i don’t want to share it.
I understand. At the moment, the “Like” button will not work correctly. We’re investigating a solution, but for now, you will need to use the other button variations to see the correct sharing accounts.
@budapeszter – Thanks for providing the additional examples. We’re still investigating this.
