WordPress PTSD – Pages randomly disappearing from my site

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok so literally everytime I go to my site there’s something else wrong. Graphics disappearing, garbled text, etc. This time 3 whole pages of my site are simply gone. The only thing that’s there is the header and footer. All the copy has simply disappeared. I’m literally getting PTSD from WordPress. And….. they’re not available to help. Crap product and non-existent service. Any suggestions?

  • Hi there,

The site you’re indicating here, https://mymindmentor.wordpress.com/, was created in 2010 and still contains the default content it was created with, so it’s effectively empty.

Can you please provide the address of the correct site so we can take a look at what’s going on?

By the way, we have detailed instructions on how to reach support here:

    Hi Kokkieh,

    My site is http://www.mindmattershypnosis.co.

Myself and my husband (who’s a techie) searched your site for support and all we were both able to find was the forums. This for the link – I’m sure it will come in handy in the future.

I’d like to attach a partial list of the 20+ issues I’ve had since the site went live at the end of the summer, but don’t see a way to do that here.. I work very hard to present a high quality, professional image which is why I spend a lot of money on this site and literally every time I go onto it something else is wrong. I had a Joomla site for 7 or 8 years prior and never a problem. This platform has cost me a ridiculous amount of time and money fixing constant glitches, not to mention the stress.

  • Is the domain maybe http://www.mindmattershypnosis.com/? http://www.mindmattershypnosis.co/ does not appear to exist.

If first one is the correct site, that site is not actually with us on WordPress.com, but is using the open source WordPress software you can download from WordPress.org and install at your own hosting provider. We have no control over or access to self-hosted sites, and they work very differently from sites on WordPress.com. Based on your domain’s Whois details, your hosting provider is SiteGround.com, so your site is installed on their servers and only they have access to it.

You can read a bit about the difference here:

    WordPress.com and WordPress.org

I don’t have much experience with self-hosted WordPress myself, but nine times out of ten if there are issues it’s caused by plugins and themes that are not compatible with each other. So most of the time it’s not the WordPress software itself, but add-ons from different sources causing conflicts.

You can try contacting your theme’s developer if the issues relate to your site’s layout or appearance, and for support with plugins you need to contact the developers of those plugins.

For the WordPress software itself there is also a forum: Nobody owns the WordPress software. It’s an open source community project supported by the same community that creates and uses it. There is no company that can hire and pay a dedicated support staff like we have on WordPress.com. Many hosting providers do have their own support, but if your hosting provider does not offer that, the WordPress.org forums are your only option:

    https://wordpress.org/support/

As far as I know most of SiteGround’s plans do include support as well, so you can try to contact them for help before you try the self-hosted forums.
