Hi, my blog posts do not show in the WordPress reader. I have read the guidelines on this subject and I’ve checked everything is in place. My blog is http://www.thatwanderlustboho.com

My blog would show in reader before but now it doesn’t. The only audience I seem to be getting is from facebook and Instagram… please help

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your posts will not display on the WordPress.COM categories and Tags pages because your site is not hosted by wordpress.COM.

    thatwanderlustboho.com is hosted by GoDaddy.com

Also note that the wordpress.COM support docs here https://en.support.wordpress.com/ do not apply to that site

The support docs for it are found at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

Thank you. When I’ve looked on reader thoug I’ve come across other blogs that are .com on there? I thought if I installed the jet pack plug in it would intergrate? I’m reasonably new to blogging so I’m still learning 😩

Please be patient while waiting for Staff to post here and explain the confusing wordpress.com hosted site and wordpress.org software on paid hosting site situation to you.

Any wordpress.COM member can use the Reader to follow any site they wish regardless of where it is hosted. However, the posts published on sites that are not hosted by wordpress.COM will not display on the WordPress.COM categories and Tags pages when the site is not hosted by wordpress.COM.

Ok, that totally explains it. I feel a bit stupid now 🙈
So, when I publish a new post on my site, does it publish on anything to do with WordPress or does it only get read by sharing it on my own social media websites?
Sorry for the questions but I feel as though I’d get more of a following on WordPress.com because reader is a great tool.

Thank you for your advice, I appreciate it ☺️

  • Hi there,

So, when I publish a new post on my site, does it publish on anything to do with WordPress

Because your site is connected with Jetpack, your posts can be featured in Discover and recommended posts, but it’s not automatically added to a feed like the tag listing in the Reader, no. And that’s really the only place where WordPress.com sites are added automatically in any case. Any site must be followed before it will appear in your Reader feed.

But I can also tell you that passive channels like the Reader and social media are less effective at getting people to your site. For discoverability, making sure your site is properly configured in terms of SEO so search engines can index and list it has a much bigger impact. Jetpack takes care of all this configuration for you.

But the best way of getting engaged followers, i.e. readers who are likely to also comment and share your work, is to read and comment on other people’s blogs. If you actively engage with other bloggers, many (not all, but many) are likely to reciprocate.

Thank you so much. I have yoast and I’m still figuring it out. The SEO is all up and running. When I read my jetpack stats, the audience is usually referred from facebook or instagram. Only once or twice has it been search engine. Maybe I’m doing something wrong or it’s because it’s only a month-2 months old.

I’m reading and mostly liking people’s blogs. I do comment when I really love something. I admit I need to spend more time doing this though.

Thank you very much for your advice ☺️

  • Getting good search engine traffic takes time. To start with, it takes about two months only for search engines to index your site, but then there’s no guarantee you’ll appear on the first page of search results. To improve your chances for that, make sure you publish regularly, that your posts are original and not just re-posting or copying content from existing sites, and it has a hug impact if other people link back to your posts from other sites, though that part you can’t really control.

Here’s a post one of our SEO experts wrote recently on stuff you can do to make your posts more search engine friendly :)

How to Publish Posts that Search Engines Will Love

Thank you. I didn’t know that, so it’s really helpful. I feel my posts are true to me and not commercial, therefor I hope people can relate. I try to write a new post every week, I just find it hard to think of new, strong content.

I will read this and hopefully I’ll be an SEO pro afterwards ☺️

That article was really helpful. I think keeping the posts relevant to your individual blog is so important. That’s what I found difficult to begin with. Jumping from one topic to the next is difficult..
    Thank you for sharing ☺️

  • You won’t always have something to write about, and that’s okay. If you’re just blogging for the love of blogging, I’d not worry too much about SEO. Keep writing what you feel is true to you, and interact with other bloggers whose writing you enjoy. Long term, that will help keep blogging fun for you, and your following will grow naturally over time :)

That’s probably the best advice I’ve had ☺️ I need to stop worrying about getting a following and let it grow naturally as you said.
    Thank you ❤️

  • You’re very welcome. Happy blogging! :D
