WordPress Reader

Hi, I noticed that my posts seemed to disappear from the WordPress Reader about a week ago. I am not overly worried because it seems some of the bloggers who regularly read my posts are finding them through email notifications, but it did seem rather odd.
Is there anything I need to twiddle with to make my posts visible in the Reader again. I am rather a technophobe, so I don’t understand all the plugins etc.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Can you tell me the titles of some specific posts that are missing?

I checked your site’s Reader feed at https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/82078499, and I can see all your recent posts there.

I did notice the Reader had duplicate feeds for your site. If you somehow got subscribed to the duplicate feed, that might explain what’s going on.

I’ve merged those feeds now, so please try clearing your browser cache and then reload your site in the Reader. Let me know if you still notice anything that doesn’t look right.

Thank you so much for replying. I really do appreciate your help with this.

I first noticed around eight days ago that my posts were not appearing in the WP Reader after they had been published. This started with a post published on the Monday of last week:

    A Walk To Remember

and none of the subsequent posts have appeared including today’s post:

    Sob Sob

If I type CARAMEL into the search feature, I can find my posts. But they do not appear in the live feed. Does that make sense? I am sorry, I really am not sure of the correct technical terms.

When you said to try clearing my browser cache, is that the same as clearing cookies, or deleting history? Is that something I can do solely within WordPress, or do you mean generally on my laptop?

As I mentioned, some of those who read my posts seem to be accessing them via email. This situation is a minor concern really. But I did notice that when my posts stopped appearing, my “statistics” plummeted. It doesn’t really matter, numbers are a very shallow indicator of enjoyment, but I have always felt there was a lovely community atmosphere amongst the bloggers I have been in contact with over the past three and a half years, some of whom I shared almost daily contact. Suddenly, a significant number of them don’t seem to be seeing my posts.

If there was a way this could be resolved, I would appreciate it.

    Many thanks

    Mel :)

  • Hm, I do see both posts in the Reader: https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/82078499

    Where specifically were you checking?

    Hi there,

They don’t seem to appear in the WP Reader feed when they are published. It’s only when someone searches for Caramel that they can find my posts. In the past, the automatically popped up in the Reader when they were published.

I have a few friends that blog, and they have said they can see my posts if they search for me, but my posts no longer appear in their WP Reader feed, even though they have been following my site since they joined WordPress.

It started eight days ago. Before then, my posts were appearing when they were published, now you have to search for my blog to find my posts.

So forgive me if I am not getting the technical terms right, but I think it is an issue with the live feed in WP Reader. If you click “follow”, you would expect to see the new posts from a blogger when they are published appear in your live WP Reader. For some reason, my posts no longer appear in the live feed.

  • Hi there,

I noticed your most recent post went out about 20 hours ago, and was tagged under Blogging, Engaged, and Omicron

The first two tags are pretty active, so you post would drop down on the scroll pretty quickly. However I did visit the tag page for https://wordpress.com/tag/omicron and by scrolling (no searching involved) I was able to find your post.

You can see in the video here of what I saw on the above tag page, though as you can see it took a lot of scrolling since that page is presented newest-to-oldest. Video at this link

Can you share with me the URL of the pages you are looking for your posts on? If not on tag pages are you looking somewhere else perhaps? If you can share a link of the actual pages you are looking on it may offer a clue, thanks!

Thank you for checking. I loved the video you included. Please correct me if I am wrong, but it sounded as if you had searched for my posts in the Reader, or perhaps used the tags to search for them.

I checked this morning, (another post was published at 4amGMT) and again it has not appeared in my WP Reader. I texted a couple of friends, and they said it did not appear in their Reader either. However, if the search for CARAMEL they can see my posts.

I am wondering why my posts no longer appear in the WP Reader live feed for those who are following my blog. It’s only if they search for them, or access them via the email link sent to them that they are seeing my posts.

Is there anything I can do so that when a post is published, it pops up in the WP Reader live feed, my “followers” anyone having to search for my blog?

Whenever I log into WordPress, I click the Reader tab…

    https://wordpress.com/read

…and it shows the latest posts of all the blogs I follow. My own posts used to appear there when they were published too. But unless I conduct a search, the last post that appears in my Reader feed was published on Monday 6th December. I have published a post every day since then (usually at 4amGMT) and none of those appeared in the WP Reader live feed.

Is it just a “glitch” that might iron itself out? Or do I need to change something in the Settings function? I have not made any changes recently, partly because I don’t understand the technical side of blogging – I enjoy creative writing and sharing personal posts with friends and other bloggers who I have grown close to over the past three years.

I am not really anxious about my statistics being so much lower since this happened, but it is a shame that so many bloggers who I have been in touch with don’t seem to be seeing my posts all of a sudden (unless they search for my blog or access them via email.)

If there is anything I can do to make my posts reappear in the WP Reader live feed I would be grateful for any tips.

  • Hmm, that’s really strange. Your site feed at https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/82078499 is correctly showing your posts, but I followed your site to test, and can confirm it’s not appearing in the All followed sites list for me either.

We’ve reported this to our developers to investigate. Given that we’re heading into the holiday season it might be a while before someone can take a look at this, but we’ll let you know as soon as we have more information.

  • It appears your posts are now appearing in the main Reader feed.

I suspect when a colleague manually refreshed your feed earlier that fixed the original issue, but it required a new post being published on your site to update it in the Reader itself, as your posts reappeared immediately after your most recent post published a few hours ago.

If you still don’t see the posts on your end, try clearing your browser cache. Otherwise, please do let us know if the posts go missing like this again.

The post that was published this morning has appeared in my WP Reader! I am so glad. It didn’t surprise me that the number of likes had jumped back up to normal levels before this issue.

Thank you so much for giving it your attention. I am very grateful for the support.
