WordPress Reader is showing blog posts twice. Please help!
-
Aloha all,
I recently started a WordPress blog using my own domain. It was originally hosted on Namecheap using EasyWP, but this weekend I migrated over to BlueHost. I exported the xml from my old WordPress site and imported it into the new one on Bluehost.
The issue I am having is that when I view my blog using WordPress Reader on wordpress.com, my posts appear twice. The link to my blog on WordPress Reader is located here: https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/91912125
I am not sure why this is happening. Is it because I made edits to my posts after initially posting them? Or could the migration from one host to another have caused the posts to duplicate?
I tried Googling for a solution, but haven’t found any that worked for this specific issue. If anyone has any experience with this and can offer a possible solution, I would be more than grateful. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my question.

Hi Andrew,
I see what you mean about the duplicate posts. I’ve asked our developers to look into why this happening and I’ll be in touch when I have more news.
Thanks!

Aloha Gemma,
Thank you so much for the prompt response. I’ll keep my fingers crossed and hope that there’s a possible solution to this. Someone on Reddit mentioned that it might have something to do with the DB. I assume he was referring to the MySQL database maybe.
I will wait and see if the developers can work some magic and figure out what the issue is that’s causing this duplication. In the meantime, I’ll try to keep Googling around to see if anyone else has had this problem before and has found a way to resolve it.
Have a terrific day and be well, Gemma!

Hi Andrew, thanks for your patience. I know I’ve been here quite a while and have never seen this issue! But we did notice your feed only lists https, and only one of each post. And I’m guessing your last host was http and we have those posts here too.
So I tried clearing the history here and refreshing that way, and that seems to have done the trick — I only see one of each post in the reader now.
Let us know if you need more help. Cheers!

Aloha supernovia,
You are my angel. You resolved the duplicate posts issue in Reader. Thank you so much.
And yes, you are absolutely correct. My old host did not have SSL and the one I migrated to had SSL, so my site went from http to https.
I am extremely grateful for your help and your prompt assistance with this. I wish you a terrific day and many days ahead!

Hi again! Would you also be willing to disconnect and reconnect Jetpack? Our developers took a look and while our fix seems to have helped resolve the issue, they want to be certain you won’t run into further issues going forward. Let us know when this is done. Thank you!

Aloha supernovia,
I’ve disconnected Jetpack, reconnected, and then disconnected again. I wasn’t sure if you wanted me to keep the Jetpack plug-in turned off or not so I just left it off for now. Please let me if everything looks okay and if we are good to go. Thanks again for your help.

Aloha, @simpleandsweetlove! If you had it off before I think that’s okay, but if you had it on you’ll want to go ahead and turn it back on, as it has many functions your site could be using.

Aloha supernovia,
Okay, I will turn Jetpack back on now. I genuinely appreciate all your help. Take care!

Aloha supernovia,
I hope you are doing well. Thank you for your assistance with my WordPress Reader issues earlier this month.
I made a few new posts to my WordPress blog and encountered some new issues with the WordPress Reader. It appears that the WordPress Reader (at least for my blog) will not update the posts right away if I make edits to the original published post. I tend to make several edits to my posts after I publish them, so this appears to create some discrepancies between the blog itself and the WordPress Reader.
While this is not a major issue, I was wondering if this is the normal behavior of the Reader (not updating to the latest edited posts right away) or if this is just something weird occurring with my WordPress site? Also, I deleted one of my blog posts entitled “Learn to Love,” but it still appears on the WordPress Reader. Is there a way to refresh the Reader so that shows the most updated versions of my blog posts and removes and deleted posts? Thanks for your help!

Hi there,
It appears that the WordPress Reader (at least for my blog) will not update the posts right away if I make edits to the original published post.
That is expected. The Reader isn’t constantly checking your site for changes to already-published posts, and it will not update changes in real time. This will only happen the next time Jetpack syncs your site’s data to WordPress.com.

Aloha kokkieh,
Thanks for your quick reply. I did notice the posts were updated today when I checked Reader again. Do you know how often Jetpack syncs the data with WordPress.com?
I do still see the post that I deleted in the WordPress Reader though. I’m not sure how to sync the Reader so that it no longer shows my deleted post. Is there a way to do this? Thanks.
Much Love and Kindness,

Hi @simpleandsweetlove, it syncs periodically (when you write new posts for example). I don’t think the sync is necessarily mean to deal with deleted posts, though. Support can help with that as needed, but will you be deleting your posts regularly?
-
Hi supernovia,
Thanks for your reply. I don’t envision I will be deleting posts that often. If anything, I will probably just edit posts if deleting causes discrepancies with Reader.
For the moment, I just need to remove one post that is still appearing in Reader even though I deleted it from the blog. Thank you so much!

Yeah, it’s not just the reader — tweets, Facebook posts, Google links — anything that linked to the original article will be out there in “the wild” and not working anymore when you delete an article. I recommend just updating the article instead. :)
I’ll refresh the posts once more here. Let us know if you need more help!
