WordPress Reader will not add category feed

Hello, I’m attempting to create a List in the WordPress Reader from an RSS feed. It works for the site http://www.civilbeat.com, however, I’m hoping to be able to be able to add category feeds to my list as well.
For example, http://www.civilbeat.com/category/development-beat/feed returns a properly formatted RSS feed but when I attempt to add that url to my List it returns the error “No WordPress.com blog or external site feed found at the supplied URL.” I’ve also tried this with http://www.civilbeat.com/category/development-beat/.
The strange thing is that entering the exact same URL into “Blogs I Follow” works perfectly for the category feed which you can see here (https://wordpress.com/read/blog/feed/34826922/). Does anyone know how I can add this category feed to my List in the Reader?

http://www.civilbeat.com/ is not hosted by WordPress.COM and as the blog is not a member of the WordPress.COM community there is no automatic posting of the published content to the WordPress.COM Categories and Tags pages.
