WordPress "save" function not working
-
the “save” function is not working consistently on drafts. I am entering the same corrections over and over again. What gives?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Howdy,
Could you send me links to a couple of posts that experienced the problem? We have an autosave feature that saves the draft every couple of minutes in case of a browser crash or something similar and would want to check on that.
Thanks!
-
I have a post in “draft” form that I haven’t been able to publish because the save AND the Autosave functions don’t allow for changes I’ve made at least 6 or 7 times. The posts are the current one called “as it lays” and the draft post is called “fear.” PLUS, how can I find “Dashboard” where I used to be able to access “all posts.” the new format is really annoying and not user friendly.
-
P.S. HOW do I find, and WHERE are “all posts” to be found? Who redesigned the format? This is just terribly un-user friendly.
-
I’m looking into your issue now. In the meantime, the All posts can be found in your Dashboard ( https://uncommonhours.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ ) by clicking on Posts.
By chance, are you seeing a really blue minimalistic dashboard instead of the typical black/white with blue accents?
-
I haven’t been able to duplicate this issue yet.
Can you let me know, step-by-step, what you’re doing that isn’t working as expected?
Thanks for your patience!
-
It wasn’t obvious to me that I should click the word “posts” after the number. I did and here’s a link to the post that I’ve had so much trouble saving the changes:

-
Here’s step by step what I’ve been doing to this post draft:
https://uncommonhours.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=8827&action=edit
I go in and capitalize the letter “c” in “China” and then “save draft”. When I preview it, it’s still small letter “c” although I changed it. I’ll change other typos and “save draft” and it previews with the change. Then later, when I make another change, “save draft”, the change I made BEFORE becomes unchanged instead of saved and changed. It is crazy making and illogical.
-
Hi again,
I’m still working to duplicate this issue and asking other staff to try as well. When you are saving the draft, does the page completely refresh with the “Post draft updated” notice at the top?
Thanks again for your patience.
-
Hi, I can’t tell where that message might have appeared. I tried to go into the draft but you have it locked. FYI, I’m travelling for the next couple of hours so won’t be on email if you write to me again. Thanks for your help.
-
Hi,
Sorry for locking you out! Here’s a screenshot of what it should look like after you’ve saved a draft: http://kraftsandbox.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/postdraftsaved.png
Notice the “Post draft updated” near the top of the screenshot. If you’re not seeing that, then the save hadn’t finished, which could account for the confusion of late.
Another possibility is to visit this page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/ . Just under the grey box (“what this support page is about”), there should be a green checkmark with “Great, third-party cookies…”. Do you see that or an error message?
Lastly, do you have multiple tabs/windows open with the post editor open in different ones when this is occurring? Or editing your post on an iPad, iPhone, etc while also editing it on your browser? Some oddity has been seen when editing it at the same time in multiple windows if the lock isn’t engaged.
I’m going to head out for a few hours myself, but I’m with you until we figure this out! Thanks for your patience.

Hi, I’m now at my destination. Thanks for staying with this. I never noticed that message before saying that my draft was saved but I’ll look for it from now on. I also checked whether my third party cookies was checked on the link and it was. And yes, I do see multiple tabs/windows open with the post editor open. In fact, everytime I make a change and save it, it creates another tab/window. So after five changes, there are 5 tabs/windows. Should I be closing it out after each one? That doesn’t seem right. But you are right, I have a zillion tabs/windows after I’ve been editing a post. Maybe I shouldn’t click the “save draft” until after I’m done editing. But I like to go to preview to proofread and I have to “save draft” before I can preview. I must be doing something repetitive that is screwing up the process somehow. Thanks for persevering. I appreciate it a lot. It’s been frustrating for the last few posts. I’m also still having trouble getting to a draft post under “All Posts” which is hard to find when I scroll down from the WordPress icon. Most of the time, all I see is “new post” when I’m looking for “all posts.” Thanks

No, no, thank you for sticking with me!
For the menu issue: If you hover over your blog’s name (just to the right of the W logo), then click Dashboard under that. Then, you’ll see the Posts menu item that will take you to All Posts. An extra step, sadly.
Let’s try this to see if it solves our woes. In one tab, edit the post, then save the draft as you have been. When you click Preview, it’ll open in a new tab. Read it over. If it looks good, close that tab and go back to editing in the original tab. The idea is that the preview is think of it as a “pop up” window that you’ll want to close after you’ve finished with it.
I hope that helps. If the problem continues even with our diligence on tabs, we’ll keep working at it!

Hovering over my blog name doesn’t bring up my dashboard. When I click on the “W” it shows “new post” but not dashboard. How do I get to the dashboard in one stroke? Thanks for your help.
-
Howdy again,
The W and your blog’s name have different menus that appear – see http://cl.ly/image/192K1O392a1n
So when you visit http://mulberryshoots.com/ , just hover over the name and you can access the Dashboard from there.
Please let me know if you have any questions or anything else we can do for you.

That is very odd. I’ll run some more testing on Monday (sneaking in a final check for responses before calling it a night).
In the meantime, you can bookmark http://mulberryshoots.com/wp-admin/ which will take you to the Dashboard directly.
Very odd indeed. Thanks for your patience.
-
thanks for YOUR patience too. I keep thinking maybe I’m not signed in or something and that’s why it doesn’t appear when I hover over the name. But I AM signed in. I bookmarked the dashboard page. It is rather odd, isn’t it?
-
Another really odd thing is that the right hand column of my blog with Emerson quotes and links to previous posts, etc. does not always show up when I go to my blog. What do you think is going on? Thanks for your persistence and perseverance in helping me with these mishaps.
-
can you send me an email address I can attach a screenshot of the blog missing the right hand column? thanks
